Job Responsibilities:<\/p>\n
Database Design<\/p>\n
\tEnsure Database design is robust, scalable and operating optimally.
\n\tWork with other Developers, Support and Production DBA\u2019s to make sure that the solutions meet application requirements and performance goals.
\n\tActively contribute to planning meetings, documentation and testing.
\n\tDetermine, drive and document database policies, procedures and standards within BET.
\n\tSet and maintain database standards including coding standards.
\n\tDesigns, codes, tests, debugs, and documents database artifacts;
\n\tCreate complex functions, scripts, stored procedures and triggers to support application development.
\n\tResponsible for completion of development projects;
\n\tWorks with support teams to investigate operational problems\/system requirements;
\n\tDevelops business cases, requirements and performance metrics as necessary;
\n\tPrepares detailed technical specifications documents;<\/p>\n
Database Performance<\/p>\n
\tMinimize database downtime and manage parameters to provide fast query responses.
\n\tPerform tests and evaluations regularly to ensure data security, privacy and integrity
\n\tDevelop processes for optimizing database security.
\n\tPerformance tuning of database systems and queries.
\n\tCreate automation for repeated database tasks.
\n\tBe available for on-call support as needed.
\n\tProactively find and resolve long running queries and other Database performance bottle-necks<\/p>\n
Initiative and Innovation<\/p>\n
\tRecommend and implement emerging database technologies.
\n\tImplement improved processes that have a positive effect on the team\u2019s performance and company bottom line.
\n\tTake an active involvement in problem resolution and where necessary works after hours to ensure that problems are resolved
\n\tShows foresight to prevent errors or delays in projects.
\n\tDemonstrate initiative by understanding, acquiring and implementing new knowledge and skills both within team and to the wider group
\n\tIncorporates the new abilities into the day to day operational activities to improve performance of products and systems
\n\tEnsure techniques, technologies, tools and processes used are in line with industry best practices<\/p>\n
Knowledge Share<\/p>\n
\tIdentify team members requiring a specific knowledge, skill or understanding and seek ways to impart or upskill the team members through coaching and mentorship
\n\tVerify the knowledge has been imparted successfully and if not, take steps to rectify gaps in transfer of the knowledge
\n\tProvide technical guidance to the team through collaboration sessions and knowledge sharing initiatives<\/p>\n
Qualifications<\/p>\n
Job Specification:<\/p>\n
\tCompleted BSc Computer Science or National Diploma in IT. [LS1]
\n\t7 years\u2019 experience in a commercial environment utilizing a high transaction database.
\n\t5+years\u2019 experience in MSSQL-all aspects.
\n\tAdvanced SQL skills and query writing skills.
\n\tAdvanced troubleshooting SQL skills.
\n\tExperience in designing\/optimizing MSSQL Databases.
\n\tProven experience in mentoring of other DBAs.<\/p>\n
