Purpose of the Job<\/p>\n
\tMacmillan Education South Africa (a subsidiary of Springer Nature) is seeking to appoint a recent graduate as a Legal and Compliance Intern. The successful applicant will provide support to the legal and compliance team and the company as a whole.<\/p>\n
Requirements<\/p>\n
\tLLB degree from a registered university or an institution recognised by the Legal Practice Council in South Africa.
\n\tSouth African graduate who completed their qualification in the last 3 years (2022\u20132025).
\n\tFluency in English (spoken and written).
\n\tAbility to interpret legal documents, including legislation, opinions, and case law.
\n\tKnowledge or practical experience in IP, Company Law, Contract Law, and Commercial\/Litigation.
\n\tUnderstanding of administration, governance, and compliance issues.
\n\tStrong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to apply legal knowledge effectively.
\n\tExcellent problem-solving skills and high attention to detail.
\n\tHigh emotional intelligence with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
\n\tHighly organised, goal-driven, and confident.
\n\tPatient, professional, and solutions-oriented.
\n\tAbility to work under pressure and strive for excellence.
\n\tCommitted to confidentiality, integrity, and ethical standards.<\/p>\n
Key Responsibilities<\/p>\n
\tReview and draft agreements.
\n\tDraft minutes of meetings, resolutions, and maintain statutory records.
\n\tConduct research and communicate the impact of regulatory matters on the business.
\n\tPromote awareness of policies throughout the organisation.
\n\tHandle departmental administration.
\n\tLiaise with and manage external attorneys.
\n\tPrepare and process invoices for payment.
\n\tIndex, store, and manage vital documents.
\n\tManage contracts from inception to completion.
\n\tDraft contracts from precedents.
\n\tOrganise and deliver training to the business.
\n\tTrack and follow up on training priorities.
\n\tLiaise with external company secretaries.
\n\tMaintain and update company records and information schedules.<\/p>\n
