Job Purpose<\/p>\n
\tJava Team Lead will be responsible for overseeing the development of complex IT platform using Java Enterprise Edition, specifically the IDIT platform. This role includes leading a development team, driving end-to-end project delivery, ensuring technical excellence, and fostering collaboration across business and IT stakeholders. The successful candidate will provide both hands-on coding expertise and leadership in architecture, design, and implementation.<\/p>\n
Key Responsibilities<\/p>\n
\tLead a team of Java developers, providing technical guidance, mentorship, and performance management. Self-starter who takes accountability for the team\u2019s delivery
\n\tOversee the design and delivery of end-to-end customer projects, including UI, SQL data models, and business logic implementation.
\n\tArchitect and develop integrations with external systems (web services, APIs, and other technologies).
\n\tCollaborate with business analysts, architects, and project managers to translate requirements into robust technical solutions.
\n\tReview and approve technical designs, code quality, and adherence to best practices.
\n\tDrive process improvements and adoption of modern development methodologies.
\n\tEnsure project timelines, quality standards, and budgetary requirements are met.<\/p>\n
Application Development<\/p>\n
\tDevelop and maintain Java-based modules for policy, claims, billing, and customer management.
\n\tCustomize IDIT metadata, workflows, and UI components to meet business requirements.
\n\tEnsure scalability, performance, and maintainability of all developed components.
\n\tIntegration & Interoperability
\n\tArchitect and implement integrations with third-party systems (e.g., payment gateways, CRM, regulatory platforms).
\n\tDesign and manage APIs (REST\/SOAP) for seamless data exchange across platforms.<\/p>\n
Requirement Analysis & Solution Design<\/p>\n
\tCollaborate with business analysts, product owners, and stakeholders to gather and refine requirements.
\n\tTranslate business needs into technical specifications and actionable development plans.
\n\tProvide strategic input into product roadmap and platform enhancements.<\/p>\n
Testing & Quality Assurance<\/p>\n
\tOversee unit, integration, and regression testing strategies.
\n\tEnsure automated testing coverage and CI\/CD pipeline integration.
\n\tConduct code reviews and mentor developers on best practices.<\/p>\n
Platform Configuration & Customization<\/p>\n
\tDeeply understand and leverage IDIT\u2019s metadata-driven architecture.
\n\tOptimize system performance, troubleshoot complex issues, and implement enhancements.
\n\tStay current with IDIT platform updates and industry trends.<\/p>\n
Documentation & Governance<\/p>\n
\tMaintain comprehensive technical documentation and design artifacts.
\n\tEnsure compliance with regulatory standards (e.g., POPIA, FSCA).
\n\tSupport audit and governance processes through traceable development practices<\/p>\n
Performance Tuning & Optimization<\/p>\n
\tMonitor application performance and identify bottlenecks.
\n\tOptimize database queries, caching strategies, and service calls.
\n\tImplement logging and monitoring tools to ensure system reliability.<\/p>\n
Security & Compliance<\/p>\n
\tEnsure applications adhere to data protection regulations (e.g., POPIA in South Africa).
\n\tImplement authentication, authorization, and encryption mechanisms.
\n\tSupport audit and compliance reporting features within the platform.<\/p>\n
Team Collaboration & Mentorship<\/p>\n
\tLead and mentor a team of developers, fostering growth and knowledge sharing.
\n\tFacilitate Agile ceremonies (stand-ups, sprint planning, retrospectives).
\n\tPromote a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.<\/p>\n
Required Knowledge and Experience\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0
\nRequired Experience (relevant or in a similar role)<\/p>\n
\tMinimum 10 years in Java Enterprise Edition programming, with at least 3 years in a leadership or team lead capacity.
\n\tUnit testing and mocking frameworks
\n\tProven experience in translating complex business requirements into detailed technical designs.
\n\tStrong Object-Oriented design principles
\n\tStrong hands-on experience with Spring Boot, Java 11+
\n\tSolid understanding of Microservices architecture
\n\tProficiency with application servers (WebLogic \/ WebSphere \/ JBoss \u2013 Advantage).
\n\tExperience with MSSQL.
\n\tStrong understanding of software architecture, system integration, and performance optimization.
\n\tEnd to end implementation of customer projects, including UI, SQL data model and business logic implementation
\n\tDevelopment of interfaces with external systems (web services, other technologies)
\n\tRequired Knowledge and Skills
\n\tStrong understanding of short-term insurance products and lifecycle
\n\tExcellent communication, stakeholder management, and leadership skills.
\n\tEJB, SQL, Hibernate \u2013 Must; strong understanding of complex data and domain models with large-scale DB tables.
\n\tAgile\/Scrum, SDLC, CI\/CD pipelines
\n\tAbility to translate functional requirements into technical design and development tasks\u00a0
\n\tAnalytical thinking, communication, problem-solving, stakeholder engagement
\n\tExperience with application server: WebLogic \/ WebSphere \/ JBoss \u2013 Advantage
\n\tExperience working with Oracle, DB2, MSSQL (all or one of them) \u2013 Advantage
\n\tTeam player with excellent communication skills
