PRIMARY PURPOSE<\/p>\n
\tThe Legal Manager is responsible for providing expert legal support and guidance across the Bank, ensuring legal compliance, managing risk, and supporting business objectives.
\n\tThe role includes oversight of legal documentation, litigation, corporate governance, and effective management of the Legal department\u2019s resources and outputs.<\/p>\n
Key Performance Area (KPA)<\/p>\n
Financial Management<\/p>\n
\tEnsure that losses do not occur as a result of customers and the Bank being exposed to legal risks
\n\tPursue potential cost saving \/ revenue enhancement initiatives for the Bank where applicable.<\/p>\n
Stakeholder Management to drive Service Excellence<\/p>\n
\tIdentify problem areas and ensure corrective action is taken.
\n\tAnalyse and assess business\/customer requirements to provide timeous solutions.
\n\tResponsiveness: Speed of responses, reaction time, going the extra mile, turnaround time.
\n\tBuilding relationships with internal and external stakeholders.<\/p>\n
Operational Management<\/p>\n
\tDraft, review, edit, and revise contracts, agreements, and other legal and corporate documents to ensure accuracy and legal compliance.
\n\tProvide sound legal advice and formal opinions to internal stakeholders across the Bank.
\n\tDraft non-standard legal clauses in line with Bank policy and best practices.
\n\tConduct legal due diligence and assessments on funding applications, transactions, and other business activities.
\n\tMonitor the legal and regulatory environment to identify potential risks and propose mitigation strategies.
\n\tManage the Bank\u2019s intellectual property portfolio in collaboration with Bidvest Group and external legal advisors.
\n\tSupport the drafting of facility and security documentation based on approved credit sanctions.
\n\tReview all documents requiring legal sign-off and ensure appropriate approvals are obtained.
\n\tKeep abreast of relevant legislative developments and ensure communication of changes to impacted business units.
\n\tRepresent Legal in internal and external stakeholder meetings, providing strategic legal input as required.
\n\tFacilitate legal training and awareness sessions when needed.
\n\tManage litigation on behalf of the Bank, ensuring protection of the Bank\u2019s interests.
\n\tSupport the Company Secretary in governance, statutory compliance, and secretariat functions.
\n\tEnsure effective record-keeping and document management within the Legal department.
\n\tPromote clear and collaborative communication between Legal and business units.<\/p>\n

\tLead and manage a team, providing guidance, mentorship, and professional development opportunities.
\n\tFoster a culture of excellence, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
\n\tRecruit and retain talented professionals to support the bank’s financial operations.<\/p>\n

Qualifications<\/p>\n
\tMatric or equivalent essential
\n\tLegal qualification essential
\n\tMust be an admitted legal practitioner.<\/p>\n
Experience<\/p>\n
\t5-7 years post-admission corporate and commercial legal experience gained from financial services sector or legal practice.
\n\tExperience in relation to legislation pertaining to the banking industry
\n\tPrevious managerial\/supervisory experience<\/p>\n
