Our Talent Team is on the hunt for a Risk Control Officer for the Baking Division. The role will be based in Durban and will report into the Risk Control Manager.
\n\tThe Risk Officer is responsible for overseeing the adequacy and overall effectiveness of Safety, Health, Environmental (including sustainability) and Risk, and its implementation, identification of strategy and operations. Implementing and monitoring the process of Safety, Health, Environment (Including Sustainability) and Risk Management and integrating it, into the daily activities within the business units. Ensure the adherence to the Safety, Health, Environmental and Risk compliance process. Protect the Business units against uncertainties that could threaten the achievement of business objectives. Offer guidance and support to risk controllers.<\/p>\n
Minimum Requirements\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>\n
\tMust have a National Diploma in Safety Management or Equivalent (or studying towards).
\n\tMinimum 2 experience in a Production\/Manufacturing\/Construction\/Mining Environment.
\n\tSAMTRAC certification required.
\n\tEnvironmental Certificate required.
\n\tIncident Investigation required.
\n\tHIRA Certification required.
\n\tAuditing Certification required.
\n\tISO 45001 & ISO 14001 Awareness\/Implementation\/Auditing required.<\/p>\n
Knowledge:<\/p>\n
\tComprehensive knowledge of OHS Act 85 of 1993.
\n\tSound understanding of the National Environmental Management Act.
\n\tHazard Identification and Risk Assessment.
\n\tExcellent Investigation skills\/techniques.
\n\tEmergency preparedness.
\n\tBusiness Continuity Planning.
\n\tContractor Management.
\n\tBasic knowledge of the Basic Conditions of Employment Act.

Duties & Responsibilities\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0
\nSpan of Control:<\/p>\n
\tMonitors safety and environmental issues, provides training, investigates incidents and accidents, acts as a resident expert on related matters and makes recommendations to improve safety in the workplace.
\n\tThe position requires the ability to cope with changing circumstances and situations with little supervision.
\n\tInteract with operational personnel, departmental managers and Bakery Managers.
\n\tFoster positive relationships with regulatory authorities (Department of Labour, SAPS, PSIRA, Metro Police, Fire Department).
\n\tWork proactively with Management to establish and maintain a programme of continual improvement in the management of Safety and Environmental programmes.
\n\tProvide clear leadership for the development of a safe environment .
\n\tEnsure that the safety and environmental programmes (ISO 45001 & ISO 14001) are carried out efficiently throughout the Bakery & Depots.
\n\tEnsure compliance with applicable regulatory standards.
\n\tProvide regular reports to management of the systems implemented.
\n\tKeep abreast of legislated changes and best practice methods and implement them at the Bakery.
\n\tDrawing up of Policies\/Procedures (Including Safe Operating Procedures).
\n\tTracking Motor Vehicle Accidents and ensure that disciplinary action is taken against offenders.
\n\tEnsure that management act on the recommendations.
\n\tAssume other duties that may be assigned.
\n\tAssist in budget planning and control.
\n\tUse of trend analysis to identify system deficiencies and incident trends, outline relevant improvements.
\n\tChair monthly SHER Meetings.
\n\tCompile a monthly scorecard and ensure scorecard activities are completed when they are due.
\n\tUpdate monthly reports by their due dates.
\n\tLead incident investigations and ensure control measures are implemented.
\n\tDrive HIRA on site.
\n\tEnsure robberies are investigated.
\n\tReporting of injuries to the DoL for all section 24 incidents.
\n\tImplement and maintain the ISO 45001 & ISO 14001 systems and it\u2019s related requirements.<\/p>\n
Audits\/Surveys:<\/p>\n
\tConduct internal audits to ensure compliance.
\n\tParticipate in all external audits.
\n\tEnsure surveys and assessments are conducted as per legislation and within the necessary time frame.
\n\tAddress corrective actions and gaps identified where necessary.<\/p>\n
Training:<\/p>\n
\tIdentify employee training needs in relation to Health\/Safety and Environmental.
\n\tPlan and ensure training is done as and when legislation requires.
\n\tDevelop controls to ensure that training is conducted continuously.
\n\tUpdate and maintain related training matrix.<\/p>\n
Reporting:<\/p>\n
\tDevelopment of reports in relation to health, safety, environmental and risk issues and communicate to decision makers.
\n\tCombine DIFR stats for monthly reports.
\n\tSustainable development.
\n\tAnalyse data for trends.
\n\tReceive reports and respond to orders issued by DoL.
\n\tAct as liaison with all related regulating agencies.<\/p>\n
