Purpose of the role\u00a0<\/p>\n
\tThe Business Performance Leader (BPL) plays a pivotal role in driving profitable performance and enabling a strong performance culture.
\n\tThis role combines financial leadership, operational control, and business performance analysis to ensure efficient daily operations and long-term growth.
\n\tThe BPL provides accurate reporting, forecasts, and insights, while guiding department managers and teams to achieve their KPIs.
\n\tThe position requires a strong finance and analytical background, preferably with retail experience, to influence strategic planning and decision-making.<\/p>\n
Main responsibilities:<\/p>\n
Financial Management & Control<\/p>\n
\tReview and interpret financial performance with a focus on the Profit & Loss (P&L) statement, ensuring accuracy, understanding key drivers, and identifying risks and opportunities to improve store and departmental results
\n\tLead the budgeting and forecasting process, providing rolling forecasts and scenario modelling.
\n\tMonitor and control OPEX and CAPEX, approving purchase orders and ensuring adherence to budgets.
\n\tConduct detailed variance, trend, and gap analysis to highlight risks, opportunities, and performance issues.
\n\tEstablish and enforce internal controls to safeguard company assets, ensure accuracy, and prevent fraud.
\n\tAdvise on strategies for cost reduction, revenue enhancement, and investment decisions.<\/p>\n
Performance Leadership & KPIs<\/p>\n
\tTranslate business unit goals into store-level KPI targets.
\n\tTrack, analyse, and escalate performance gaps across sales, margin, costs, shrinkage, and operations.
\n\tDeliver regular performance reports and present insights to Store EXCO and regional stakeholders.
\n\tConduct weekly and monthly store performance reviews.
\n\tBe the lead on External and Internal Audits.<\/p>\n
Coaching, Training & Capability<\/p>\n
\tWork closely with the Head of Departments to analyse financial performance, KPIs, and profitability drivers, collaborating on actions that drive departmental and store results.
\n\tTrain and coach department managers on financial acumen, KPIs, and profitability drivers.
\n\tOrganise and facilitate training sessions to build commercial capability.
\n\tPromote a performance-driven culture with clear objectives and accountability.<\/p>\n
Operational Execution & Process<\/p>\n
\tEvaluate and improve financial and business processes for efficiency and compliance.
\n\tIdentify and mitigate operational and financial risks.
\n\tSupport process improvement initiatives to address underperformance.<\/p>\n
Stock, Shrinkage & Supply Chain<\/p>\n
\tOwn the stock count process and execution.
\n\tEnsure inventory accuracy and manage shrinkage with the Head of Departments.
\n\tOversee financial aspects of inventory management and supply chain efficiency.<\/p>\n
On-Site Services Oversight<\/p>\n
\tManage external service providers (security, cleaning, waste management) for cost-efficiency and compliance.<\/p>\n
\u00a0Strategic & Store Support<\/p>\n
\tPartner with the Store Leader on business planning and strategy execution.
\n\tProvide analytical insights for investment decisions and business growth.
\n\tAlign store-level initiatives with regional performance priorities.<\/p>\n
Change Management<\/p>\n
\tLead the implementation of new processes, systems, and tools.
\n\tManage change effectively, ensuring smooth transitions and team engagement.
\n\tProvide training and communication support during change initiatives.<\/p>\n
Requirements\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
Qualifications & Experience<\/p>\n
\tDegree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or related field (essential).
\n\tProfessional certification (e.g., CIMA, ACCA, SAICA) is advantageous.
\n\tMinimum 5 years\u2019 experience in financial management, business performance, or accounting.
\n\tRetail or FMCG sector experience preferred.
\n\tExperience working with ERP\/accounting systems and financial reporting tools.<\/p>\n
