\tThe CSIR has a vacancy for a\u00a0Master\u2019s Studentship: Cybersecurity\u00a0in the Information and Cybersecurity Centre, within the Defence and Security Cluster.
\n\tThe incumbent will be responsible for undertaking original research and development in cybersecurity with the Data Security and Analytics, Governance, Privacy and Trust, Cybersecurity and\/or Secure Identity Systems domains. This position is based in Pretoria.<\/p>\n

\n\tCybersecurity systems
\n\tGovernance, privacy, and trust
\n\tAI for Security and Security for AI
\n\tDevelopment of home-grown cybersecurity solutions
\n\tNational cybersecurity capability development
\n\tNext-generation security operations centre
\n\tEmerging cybersecurity topics such as zero-trust
\n\tAnd other related topics<\/p>\n
Key responsibilities:<\/p>\n
\tPrepare a research proposal to be approved by both the CSIR and the university;
\n\tPrepare a written literature overview of the current state-of-the-art relevant to the research topic;
\n\tPerform original research to solve the open research problem(s) that the student identified in his\/her proposal;
\n\tProduce sufficient quantity and quality of peer-reviewed publications based on the Masters research topic;
\n\tCompile the Masters dissertation and defending the work successfully; and
\n\tContribute to extra project activities that may be outside the scope of the master research as per the needs of the research group. The amount of such work shall be limited to 20% of the total time.<\/p>\n
Qualifications, skills and experience:<\/p>\n
\tAn Honours degree in computer engineering, computer science, information technology, information systems or a related\/relevant field;
\n\tRegister for a Master\u2019s qualification within the South African university (to be agreed upon with the CSIR co-supervisor);
\n\tMust have a good background in computer systems, information security, cybersecurity and\/or secure identity systems.
\n\tWorking knowledge of related programming languages such as Python, R, Java, C# and the Linux operating system (and others applicable).
\n\tAbility to work with different types of data sets and good grasp of analytical tools.
\n\tKnowledge and exposure in software development for experimentation and prototyping.
\n\tGood understanding of the scientific method: design of experiments, running experiments, critical analysis of results, and dissemination of knowledge.
\n\tGood communication skills (verbal and written) and ability to interact efficiently with diverse teams of people<\/p>\n
