The incumbent will be responsible for leading and conducting research projects in the field of Civil Engineering in Water and Wastewater Infrastructure. This position is based in Pretoria.<\/p>\n<p>Key responsibilities:<\/p>\n<p>\tConceptualise, guide and manage R&amp;D projects within the water value-chain infrastructure;<br \/>\n\t\u00a0Provide strategic direction to R&amp;D activities, understand, and analyse real world problems and user requirements, select from a range of proposed conceptual solutions, formulate key research questions and appropriate R&amp;D approaches;<br \/>\n\tDevelop operations and maintenance planning for water and wastewater infrastructure;<br \/>\n\tDevelop Asset Care management documentation;<br \/>\n\tDevelopment of strategic infrastructure planning documentation;<br \/>\n\tDesign of water distribution network, water and wastewater infrastructure<br \/>\n\tDevelop and design stormwater management systems and plans;<br \/>\n\tUndertake research in the development and application of hydraulic models for water network schemes;<br \/>\n\tUtilize software for design, assessment, optimization, re-engineering of water and wastewater infrastructure;<br \/>\n\tAbility and willingness to conduct fieldwork, including site visits, surveys and inspections.<br \/>\n\tDesign of roads and related infrastructure, which includes all aspects of the design process and costing.<br \/>\n\tManage project life cycle, technical resources, scheduling of activities to meet client expectations, balancing competing demands on scope, time, cost and quality;<br \/>\n\tDevelop proposals for different institutions to generate appropriate funds to pursue the strategic objectives of the CSIR;<br \/>\n\tEngage with research programs and researchers to identify and grow opportunities to expand research endeavours and strengthen science at national and international level;<br \/>\n\tNetwork with peers in the field expertise within and outside of the CSIR;<br \/>\n\tEngage with clients and industry partners to develop long term relationships;<br \/>\n\tGenerate research papers, reports, reviews, and summaries;<br \/>\n\tManage and ensure the development of self and interns through coaching, mentoring, work assignment, structured training, and appropriate supervision to maximise human potential in line with the needs of the organisation and the national system of innovation.<\/p>\n<p>Qualifications, skills and experience:<\/p>\n<p>\tA BEng degree or equivalent in Civil Engineering with at least five years\u2019 experience in the field of water engineering;<br \/>\n\tA postgraduate degree in civil engineering or Water Engineering will be an added advantage<br \/>\n\tThree to five years\u2019 experience in design of water and wastewater infrastructure<br \/>\n\tExperience in working with public sector clients (e.g., municipalities, water boards, government departments);<br \/>\n\tExperience with road engineering and associated civil works.<br \/>\n\tExperience in developing and\/or updating operations and maintenance planning documents for water and wastewater infrastructure;<br \/>\n\tProfessional registration with ECSA;<br \/>\n\tPractical knowledge and application of hydraulic modelling is essential;<br \/>\n\tKnowledge of civil\/water engineering practice and understanding of the water value chain.<br \/>\n\tProven track record in project management and research project leadership;<br \/>\n\tExcellent English communication, presentation and writing skills, including the publication of technical outputs;<br \/>\n\tAbility to work independently as well as in teams;<br \/>\n\tComputer (MS software), programming and IT skills;<br \/>\n\tProblem-solving, solution-seeking orientation;<br \/>\n\tAbility to network and proactively establish and maintain links with internal and external stakeholders and clients as well as the research community.<br \/>\n\tMust have a valid driver\u2019s licence<\/p>\n<p>Closing Date<\/p>\n<p>\t17\/09\/2025<\/p>\n<p>go to method of application \u00bb<\/p>\n<p>Apply via company website ( http:\/\/www.csir.co.za ) or<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"template":"","meta":{"_promoted":"","_job_location":"","_application":"","_company_name":"Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR)","_company_website":"http:\/\/www.csir.co.za","_company_tagline":"The Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) is one of the leading scientific and technology research, development and implementation organisations in Africa.
