Primary Purpose of the Job<\/p>\n
This role will be a key member of the Compliance Team that supports BDO South Africa in building a resilient and successful business, by:<\/p>\n
\tDesigning and facilitating effective and efficient compliance processes with clearly defined roles and responsibilities, that enable business to deliver exceptional client service
\n\tBeing a trusted advisor to business, advising on regulations, policies and procedures and enhancing skills through focused training and awareness programmes
\n\tImplementing monitoring processes, providing value-add reporting and ensuring remedial action is taken for identified non-compliance
\n\tEntrenching a strong culture in the firm that is about more than pure compliance, but also about promoting a message that everyone has a role to play in protecting the firm against risk.
\n\tThe team is responsible for the \u201cRelevant Ethical Requirements (including Independence)\u201d and \u201cAcceptance and Continuance of Client Relationships and Specific Engagements\u201d components of ISQM1.
\n\tThe Compliance Practitioner role will report into the Senior Manager: Independence, Conflicts and Ethics within the broader Compliance team, and will be responsible for designing, implementing and monitoring effective and efficient processes to ensure compliance with policies relating to the above components.<\/p>\n
Requirements
\nMain Duties and Responsibilities<\/p>\n
Non-Assurance Services (NAS) Process:<\/p>\n
\tMonitoring and review of NAS to Public Interest Entities. Includes drafting of concurrence letters and meticulous maintenance of NAS tracker and register.
\n\tParticipate in current automation initiative.<\/p>\n
Monitoring and Maintaining Firm Entity Management System:<\/p>\n
\tMaintain firm\u2019s prohibited entity list.
\n\tEfficient facilitation of quarterly public interest entity validations.<\/p>\n
Breach Remediation Assistance:<\/p>\n
\tDrafting breach consultations and assisting with implementation of remediation where it pertains to the Independence, Conflicts and Ethics function.
\n\tCommunication of remediation actions to other stakeholders and tracking successful implementation.<\/p>\n
Training and Communication:<\/p>\n
\tDevelopment of content to create awareness of Independence, Conflicts and Ethics through various information methods, including email communication and webcast training.<\/p>\n
Annual Independence Declaration Process:<\/p>\n
\tAssistance with annual independence declaration process, including roll-out, exception resolution and reporting to leadership.<\/p>\n
New Joiner Declaration Process and Training:<\/p>\n
\tPresenting training to new joiners on Independence, Conflicts and Ethics.
\n\tAssistance with new joiner declaration process, including roll-out, exception resolution and reporting to leadership.<\/p>\n
Financial Interest Declaration Process:<\/p>\n
\tAssistance with quarterly financial interest declaration process, including roll-out, exception resolution and reporting to leadership.<\/p>\n
Consultations:<\/p>\n
\tAssist with consultations related to firm and personal independence matters.<\/p>\n
Internal and External Review Readiness:<\/p>\n
\tEnsure continuous readiness for internal monitoring and external regulatory reviews.<\/p>\n
Qualifications, Recognition of Prior Learning, Work Experience, and Knowledge<\/p>\n
\tQualifications\/Recognition of Prior Learning equivalent
\n\tA qualification in Compliance, Risk, Finance or Audit<\/p>\n
Work Experience<\/p>\n
\t2-3 years of experience in similar risk management, independence and\/or compliance roles.
\n\tExperience within a professional services\/audit firm would be advantageous.
\n\tDesign and implementation of policies and processes for regulatory compliance and risk mitigation.
\n\tTraining design and presentation
\n\tProject management experience
\n\tBusiness analysis experience relating to technology solutions<\/p>\n
Knowledge<\/p>\n
\tIntermediate Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
\n\tExcellent written and spoken English language skills<\/p>\n
