The core responsibility of this role is to support efficient warehouse operations through the safe and timely offloading of inbound vehicles, sorting and handling of CHEP pallets, loading activities, and other related logistics functions.<\/p>\n

\nKey Areas of Impact:
\nOffload Vehicles When Required:<\/p>\n
\tUsing a forklift to offload inbound vehicles.
\n\tStacking stock in the warehouse.
\n\tPre-inspecting vehicles and stock for contamination per food safety requirements before offloading.
\n\tMeeting vehicle TAT (Turnaround Times) targets set by the business.
\n\tEnsuring no stock or pallets are damaged during handling.<\/p>\n
Sorting, Stacking, and Loading of Pallets:<\/p>\n
\tOffloading empty pallets from vehicles.
\n\tInspecting and sorting pallets based on good condition and identifying broken pallets according to CHEP’s standards.
\n\tConducting daily counts of empty pallets and reporting to the Receiving Supervisor.
\n\tMaintaining neatness of the pallet area at all times.
\n\tCorrectly stacking and storing pallets to align with maximum stacking heights.
\n\tNeatly wrapping broken pallet pieces for safe loading.
\n\tLoading pallets back to CHEP and factories.<\/p>\n
Loading of Vehicles When Required:<\/p>\n
\tPre-inspecting vehicles for contamination per food safety requirements before loading.
\n\tAssisting Despatch Loaders with loading stock onto vehicles as per supervisor\u2019s instructions.
\n\tAdhering to vehicle TAT times set by the business.
\n\tLoading heavier products at the bottom and lighter pallets at the top.
\n\tEnsuring no damaged pallets or stock is loaded.
\n\tDe-stacking stock to fit into vehicles if necessary.
\n\tEnsuring stable loading of stock with evenly distributed weight.<\/p>\n
Operating Forklift Safely and Conducting Required Checks:<\/p>\n
\tUsing a checklist to inspect battery, water, oil, hydraulic oil, lights, etc.
\n\tChecking proper operation of forks (upwards, downwards, tilt forwards, and backwards).
\n\tInspecting tires and brakes.<\/p>\n
Reporting any faults to the supervisor.<\/p>\n
\tObserving warehouse speed limits and being observant at all times.
\n\tHandling products carefully to avoid damage to both product and equipment.
\n\tDriving cautiously to prevent damage to equipment, property, and fixtures.
\n\tImmediately reporting any forklift-related damage or accidents to the supervisor.
\n\tEnsuring wheel chokes are in place under truck wheels before loading or offloading.
\n\tMinimizing driver exceptions on FMX by operating assigned MHE (Material Handling Equipment) properly, avoiding things like harsh braking, excessive idling, and improper parking.<\/p>\n
Ad Hoc Functions:<\/p>\n
\tCleaning the forklift thoroughly with required detergents.
\n\tArranging regular maintenance by outside contractors.
\n\tRemoving any damaged product caused by the forklift to the repacking area.
\n\tImmediately cleaning up any spilled product and disposing of waste in the correct receptacles.
\n\tAssisting with monthly stock counts and additional tasks as instructed by management.
\n\tWillingness to work extended shifts due to the dynamic nature of the receiving operation.<\/p>\n
Qualifications and Experience:<\/p>\n
\tGrade 12 (Matric) or equivalent qualification.
\n\tMinimum of 1 year experience operating a forklift.
\n\tValid forklift license and up-to-date medical clearance.<\/p>\n
Knowledge:<\/p>\n
\tFamiliarity with CHEP pallet standards and handling requirements.<\/p>\n
