PURPOSE<\/p>\n
\tAn exciting opportunity exists within Fraser Alexander Africa to support mechanical and piping drafting requirements on hydraulic mining and tailings projects.
\n\tThe successful candidate will be responsible for producing high-quality 2D and 3D drawings, assisting with BOQ development, and ensuring accurate drawing documentation in line with project standards.
\n\tThe role may also include short-term secondments to other divisions, offering exposure across the business while supporting workload and technical requirements.<\/p>\n
RESPONSIBILITIES<\/p>\n
Design Development and Detailing<\/p>\n
\tDevelop piping and mechanical layout drawings from concept through to construction.
\n\tDesign and detail custom support structures, skids, and baseplates for mechanical equipment (e.g., pumps, manifolds) in line with installation and load requirements.<\/p>\n
3D Modelling, BOQ and Drawing Control<\/p>\n
\tGenerate 3D models for visualisation and clash detection.
\n\tExtract accurate BOQs and material take-offs from models and drawings.
\n\tMaintain proper versioning, archiving, and retrieval of drawings using approved document control systems.<\/p>\n
Quality, Standards, and Reviews<\/p>\n
\tReview subcontractor and vendor drawings for accuracy, compliance, and constructability.
\n\tConduct internal QA checks and apply redline revisions.
\n\tMaintain and enforce Fraser Alexander drafting standards, title blocks, and templates.<\/p>\n
Support, Oversight, and Site Interface<\/p>\n
\tProvide oversight and technical guidance to junior draughtsmen as allocated.
\n\tReview outputs to ensure compliance with standards when supporting junior team members.
\n\tSupport site teams by providing drawing clarifications and drawing packages.<\/p>\n
Requirements<\/p>\n
QUALIFICATIONS<\/p>\n
\tNational Diploma or Certificate in Mechanical Engineering or Draughting.
\n\tCertification in AutoCAD, Plant 3D, Civil 3D, or equivalent.<\/p>\n
EXPERIENCE<\/p>\n
\t5\u20138 years of experience in mechanical drafting, ideally within mining, piping, or tailings infrastructure projects.
\n\tProven ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
\n\tExperience in BOQ extraction, subcontractor drawing reviews, redlining, and document management systems.
\n\tExperience in site verification and the integration of mechanical components into multidisciplinary construction environments.<\/p>\n
SKILLS, QUALITIES, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED<\/p>\n
\tMust be in possession of a valid driver\u2019s license.
\n\tMust be medically fit as per company standards.
\n\tMust be able to obtain a valid passport and work permits\/visas to meet travel requirements.
\n\tAdvanced skills in CAD software (AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Plant 3D)
\n\tQuality control of drawings and document tracking.
\n\tStrong communication and collaboration.
\n\tCapable of supervising junior draughtsmen as required.<\/p>\n
