We are looking for a committed individual to join our team as a Welder.\u00a0
\n\tThe role will report into the Fabrication Manager. \u00a0The role will be based from our offices in Spartan, Kempton Park, Johannesburg.<\/p>\n
Purpose of the role:<\/p>\n
\tPerform manufacturing operations to accurately tack and weld steel, stainless and \u00a0aluminium \u00a0in accordance with welding codes and specifications and Institution of Boilermakers and Supervisors.<\/p>\n
The job responsibilities:<\/p>\n
\tResponsible to operate welding machine and set according to required volts and amps depending on thickness of material and ranges specified on welding specification.
\n\tResponsible to read and interpret instructions from Boilermaker and execute task according to specification.
\n\tResponsible to check weld preparation joints and root gaps accordance to requirements prior commencing with welding.
\n\tResponsible to ensure the necessary stiffeners are inserted to control distortion.
\n\tResponsible to correctly apply the welding gauge to measure weld sizes.
\n\tResponsible to replace welding rod or wire on machine in accordance with welding specifications.
\n\tTack and weld steel, stainless steel and aluminium in accordance with welding codes and specifications and sub-assemblies to proper configuration and tolerance.
\n\tFit, tack and weld sub-assemblies and ensure that welding of lengths is continuous on a bend without stop\/start actions.
\n\tResponsible to check the quality of the completed welds by visual inspecting the welds for any surface cracks, undercuts, pin holes, wormholes, porosity, overlaps, concavity and to repair where necessary and in accordance with welders check sheet.
\n\tResponsible to do back-grind on welding where necessary.
\n\tResponsible to operate overhead cranes within the safety parameters.
\n\tResponsible to stay within the allowable hours per job given by the Foreman and to put steps in place to mitigate any over run on hours due to breakdowns or other work stoppages.
\n\tResponsible to take care of all welding equipment issued and used by you.
\n\tResponsible to maintain good housekeeping in your work areas on a continuous basis.
\n\tResponsible to coach and develop or otherwise help others in working environment.
\n\tResponsible to operate within the health and safety requirements prescribed by Sandvik and OHS Act and to report any accident, injury or near miss that could have resulted in an accident to the Foreman.<\/p>\n
Qualifications & Experience Requirements<\/p>\n
\tGrade 12 \/Matric Certificate or equivalent
\n\tA completed welder qualification (Trade Test) at a reputable institution.
\n\tCompleted Welder Apprenticeship.
\n\tSubstantial experience within a metal component manufacturing environment.<\/p>\n
Other Requirements & Competencies<\/p>\n
\tAbility to understand basic engineering processing and information.
\n\tGood understanding of how parts are made.
\n\tAbility to read and understand instructions from Boilermaker.
\n\tAbility to operate an overhead crane and power tools.
\n\tKnowledge of various welding processes: MIG, TIG and SMAW
\n\tBasic understanding of vibrating equipment.
\n\tProblem solving ability.
\n\tUnderstanding the importance of time management.
\n\tListening skills and logic interpretation of information.
\n\tProduct knowledge of all Sandvik components.
\n\tTechnically orientated\/minded.
\n\tFollow-through ability to complete tasks.
\n\tAbility to work under pressure.
\n\tHonest work ethics.
\n\tAttention to detail.
\n\tA creative thinker not afraid to suggest new ways of doing things.
