About the Role<\/p>\n
\tAs an Underwriting Specialist for FinPro and Casualty, you’ll be at the forefront of risk assessment and business growth in South Africa. Reporting to the Head of Underwriting: Property and Specialty, you’ll analyze complex risks, develop tailored insurance solutions, and build valuable relationships with clients and brokers across the region.
\n\tYour expertise will directly contribute to our portfolio growth while ensuring prudent risk management.<\/p>\n
Key Responsibilities<\/p>\n
\tAssess and underwrite\u00a0new and renewal business for FinPro and Casualty lines, including transactional liability insurance, ensuring alignment with company guidelines and risk appetite
\n\tAnalyze technical insurability\u00a0of potential exposures with meticulous attention to coverage requirements and risk factors
\n\tReview and prepare\u00a0comprehensive cover structures, wordings, and competitive quotations that meet client needs while managing risk exposure
\n\tCollaborate with international teams\u00a0to assess complex underwriting activities and leverage global expertise in decision-making processes
\n\tSupport business development\u00a0by working closely with sales and distribution teams to identify opportunities and develop tailored solutions
\n\tEngage with brokers and clients\u00a0through meetings and presentations to effectively communicate our value proposition and underwriting capabilities
\n\tMonitor market trends\u00a0and competitive landscapes to inform strategic underwriting decisions and identify new business opportunities
\n\tMaintain thorough documentation\u00a0ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and internal guidelines<\/p>\n

We are looking for candidates who meet these requirements:<\/p>\n
\tBachelor’s degree in finance, insurance, risk management, or a related field
\n\tMinimum 5 years of underwriting experience specifically in FinPro and Casualty lines (including transactional liability)
\n\tStrong technical knowledge of insurance principles, risk assessment, and underwriting processes
\n\tExcellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a detail-oriented approach to evaluating exposures
\n\tProven communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with clients, brokers, and internal teams<\/p>\n
These are additional nice to haves:<\/p>\n
\tProfessional certifications in underwriting or insurance (e.g., ACII, ARe)
\n\tFamiliarity with South African insurance regulatory environment and compliance requirements
\n\tExperience working in international or multicultural business environments
\n\tWillingness to travel for client meetings and business development opportunities
\n\tDemonstrated ability to adapt to changing market conditions and evolving risk landscapes<\/p>\n
