About the job:<\/p>\n
\tThe CSIR has a vacancy for a\u00a0Firmware and Embedded Software Engineer\u00a0in the Command Control and Integrated Systems Impact Area within the Defence and Security cluster.
\n\tThe incumbent will be responsible to\u00a0design, customise and develop embedded software. This position is based in Pretoria and will report to the\u00a0Research Group Leader.<\/p>\n
Key responsibilities:<\/p>\n
\tInterpret requirements and specifications;
\n\tDesign and develop embedded firmware for microcontrollers and IoT systems;
\n\tBuild, test, and debug embedded systems prototypes;
\n\tCollaborate with the product design team to integrate electronics into hardware systems;
\n\tProvide circuit design and PCB development;
\n\tPerform bench testing using oscilloscopes, multimeters, and logic analysers;
\n\tMaintain software repositories and manage version control using Git;
\n\tSupport technical training and assist participants or interns on embedded-related projects;
\n\tPrepare documentation and technical reports on all embedded system-related activities.<\/p>\n
Qualifications, skills and experience:<\/p>\n
\tA Bachelor degree in electronic\u00a0engineering with at least three years\u2019 experience in firmware development.
\n\tExperience working with microcontrollers, sensors, and communication protocols is required;
\n\tWeb or Mobile Software development will be added advantage;
\n\tStrong programming skills in C\/C++, Python, or similar languages;
\n\tSolid understanding of electronics principles, power systems, and circuit protection;
\n\tFamiliarity with PCB layout and schematic design;
\n\tExcellent analytical and problem-solving skills;
\n\tStrong attention to detail and document preparation.<\/p>\n
