The Chief Risk Officer (CRO) will lead the development and implementation of effective risk management, legal, and compliance frameworks. This role partners with senior stakeholders to balance risk and reward, protect the organisation\u2019s reputation, and ensure sustainable business growth.<\/p>\n
Job Description
\nRisk, Legal & Compliance Leadership<\/p>\n
\tLead the organisation\u2019s risk, solvency, and capital management strategies.
\n\tOversee compliance, market conduct, regulatory complaints, and governance frameworks.
\n\tEnsure the business operates within defined risk appetite and complies with relevant legislation and industry best practices.
\n\tDevelop and embed sustainability and corporate governance strategies.
\n\tOversee risk reporting, monitoring, and the execution of Own Risk and Solvency Assessment (ORSA) processes.
\n\tManage and mature the organisation\u2019s risk control and compliance frameworks.
\n\tConduct stress testing, scenario analysis, and forward-looking projections to support strategic planning.
\n\tEstablish a strong risk culture through education, awareness, and effective communication.<\/p>\n
Stakeholder Engagement<\/p>\n
\tBuild and maintain trusted relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including regulators and industry bodies.
\n\tAdvise the Board, Audit, and Risk Committees on all matters related to risk and regulatory compliance.
\n\tProvide actionable insights and guidance to influence business decisions.
\n\tDrive initiatives that promote fair treatment and service excellence for clients.<\/p>\n
Leadership & Team Development<\/p>\n
\tLead, coach, and develop the Legal, Risk, and Compliance teams to achieve strategic objectives.
\n\tFoster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous learning.
\n\tManage team performance, development plans, and succession strategies.
\n\tEncourage innovation, agility, and excellence within the team.<\/p>\n
Financial Oversight<\/p>\n
\tManage the department\u2019s budget and ensure compliance with financial regulations.
\n\tIdentify opportunities to improve cost efficiency and operational effectiveness.
\n\tAddress and report any financial non-compliance or irregularities.<\/p>\n
Job Requirements<\/p>\n
Education & Qualifications<\/p>\n
\tPostgraduate degree in Risk Management, Compliance, Legal, Actuarial Science, or Accounting (FASSA or CA(SA) advantageous).
\n\tRegistration with the Institute of Risk Management South Africa (IRMSA) preferred.<\/p>\n
Experience<\/p>\n
\t10\u201312 years\u2019 experience in risk management or compliance, ideally within financial services or insurance.
\n\tMinimum 5\u20138 years in senior management or executive leadership.
\n\tExperience as a Head of a Control Function highly advantageous.<\/p>\n
