Job Description<\/p>\n
\tThe Financial Controller is responsible for maintaining the integrity of the businesses\u2019 financial systems and ensuring that financial reporting, statutory submissions, and audit deliverables are timely, accurate, and compliant. \u00a0The role will lead the control, accounting, and payables functions to ensure robust governance and efficient financial operations across the business.
\n\tReporting to the Finance Director and managing a team of about 9 in the wider finance team.<\/p>\n
Key Responsibilities:
\nFinancial Reporting and Control<\/p>\n
\tOversee the month-end close process, ensuring timely, complete, and accurate management accounts.
\n\tMaintain the integrity of the General Ledger and ensure alignment with sub-ledgers.
\n\tLead preparation of balance sheet reconciliations and monthly review packs for management.
\n\tPrepare annual financial statements and coordinate external audits to deliver clean outcomes.
\n\tEnforce internal controls across journal entries, user access, approvals, and system integrity.
\n\tEnsure accounting policies and procedures are properly documented, communicated, and adhered to.<\/p>\n
Tax, Compliance and Statutory Reporting<\/p>\n
\tOversee compliance with VAT, PAYE, and corporate income tax requirements.
\n\tMaintain readiness for audit and support all compliance and statutory reporting cycles.<\/p>\n
Operational Finance Oversight<\/p>\n
\tSupervise Accounts Payable, Bank & Cash, and Expense Control teams to ensure process efficiency and adherence to policy.
\n\tGovern the ERP finance environment, ensuring accurate configuration, posting controls, and audit trails.
\n\tMaintain 13-week cash inflow forecasting, track Days Sales Outstanding (DSO) performance and coordinate rebate cash-out timing with Finance and FP&A teams to optimise cash flow.<\/p>\n
Business Partnering and Process Improvement<\/p>\n
\tPartner with the CFO and FP&A to support budgeting, forecasting, and reporting (input-level involvement).
\n\tDrive initiatives to strengthen financial discipline, automation, and reporting accuracy.
\n\tSupport ongoing finance transformation, systems upgrades, and process documentation projects.<\/p>\n
Requirements
\nExperience:<\/p>\n
\t4-6 years of experience in accounting, bookkeeping, or financial administration.
\n\tExperience managing cap tables and equity compensation.
\n\tExperience in Web3, blockchain, crypto, or tech startups is a plus<\/p>\n
Skills and Knowledge:<\/p>\n
\tProficiency in financial software (QuickBooks, Xero, Carta, or similar accounting and cap table management tools).
\n\tStrong Excel\/Google Sheets skills for data analysis and reporting.
\n\tStrong analytical and problem-solving skills.
\n\tExcellent attention to detail and ability to manage multiple financial processes simultaneously.
\n\tStrong written and verbal communication skills to interact with vendors, contractors, and legal teams<\/p>\n
Beneficial to Have:<\/p>\n
\tCrypto\/Web3 experience\u2014familiarity with blockchain-based financial transactions, digital assets, or DAOs.
\n\tExperience in crypto accounting, DeFi, or NFT-related financial reporting<\/p>\n

\tCA(SA) or equivalent professional qualification.
\n\t5\u20138 years\u2019 post-articles experience in financial control, audit, or corporate accounting.
\n\tProven experience managing financial close, tax compliance, and audit processes.
\n\tStrong working knowledge of IFRS and South African regulatory frameworks.
\n\tERP experience essential; Syspro or equivalent preferred.
\n\tFMCG, retail, or distribution sector experience is advantageous.<\/p>\n
