\tRCL FOODS is seeking a Senior Artisan to join our Milling Division. The role is based in Pretoria West and will report to the Engineering Manager.\u00a0
\n\tThe purpose of this role is to oversee the implementation of task execution to ensure quality delivery and track facilities actions\/activities to ensure timeous completion of work. The senior artisan has to give continuous feedback and report issues\/challenges relating to the facilities task to the foreman. The successful individual, incumbent, would be expected to assign and co-ordinate daily activities.<\/p>\n
Minimum Requirements\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>\n
\tOption 1: Matric, N5 Mechanical Certificate, and Trade Test Certificate as a Fitter or Fitter & Turner, Millwright Trade Qualification
\n\tOption 2: Matric, N5 Electrical Certificate, Trade Test Certificate as an Electrician, and Installation Electrician Certification
\n\t3 to 5 years of Supervisory experience in the Milling or Production Industry
\n\tStrong Leadership Skills with excellent Planning and Communication abilities
\n\tExperience in conducting structured Root-Cause Analysis (RCA)Additional
\n\tValid EB \/ Code 8 Drivers License
\n\tComputer literacy \u2013 MS Office Suite
\n\tBe prepared to work shifts, do standby duties, callouts, and work overtime
\n\tAbility to work at heights and in confined spaces<\/p>\n
Safety and Compliance:<\/p>\n
\tKnowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHS Act 85 of 1993) and related company Safety Protocols.
\n\tReview the audits completed based the GMR 2.7 inspections, ensuring all findings are addressed and clsoed based on a Pragma system.
\n\tCompliance with safe wok procedures and safety regulations.
\n\tPromote a zero-harm culture by adhering to safety, health, environmental, and security policies
\n\tMaintaining high housekeeping standards in the workshop and designated work areas.
\n\tRegular review and maintenance of site demarcation, safety systems, and barriers.<\/p>\n
\u00a0Technical Knowledge & Skills:<\/p>\n
\tProficient in Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS), specifically Pragma Onkey 5 (Onkey 5 Plus).
\n\tKnowledge of Store Inventory Management Systems and engineering maintenance techniques<\/p>\n
Strong understanding of:<\/p>\n
\tEngineering machine components (e.g., shafts, bearings, V-belts, drives, contactors, conveyors, motors, circuit breakers)
\n\tBuilt environment structures (e.g., concrete, layer works, and facilities regulations under OSHA)
\n\tHazardous environments, including gas and dust risks
\n\tFood safety standards (advantageous) – FSSC 22000<\/p>\n

\tOversee and stand-in to direct all facilities employees on behalf of the foreman.

\n\tClear reporting to the Facilities Maintenance Foreman.
\n\tStrategize and clear out the critical objectives with the engineering & facilities foreman.

\nCore Senior Artisan’s Roles:<\/p>\n
\tEnsure efficient and high-quality maintenance of all mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation equipment.
\n\tOversee the implementation and execution of key projects in collaboration with the technical team.
\n\tDevelop and execute the facilities projects roadmap.
\n\tImplement and manage SLAs for key facility services, including fire system maintenance and air-conditioning, to automate service delivery.
\n\tConduct engineering problem-solving to maintain high equipment uptime.
\n\tDrive team engagement by conducting bi-annually one-on-one discussions to track individual KPIs.
\n\tOversee maintenance budget expenditures within approved thresholds.
\n\tDeliver on workshop performance objectives in mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and facilities maintenance, along with project execution.
\n\tFacilitate training and upskilling of subordinates\/ teammates.
\n\tProvide 24-hour coverage for mechanical and electrical engineering matters (standby rotation as required).
\n\tEnsure all maintenance activities are performed in accordance with the work order system.
\n\tMaintain professional working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
\n\tWrite work instructions and conduct planned job observations.
\n\tAssess and coordinate the department overtime within set thresholds.
\n\tFoster a strong teamwork culture and enforce the disciplinary code of practice when necessary.
\n\tDrive performance and accountability within the team.
\n\tTranslate blueprints into layouts, fabricate required items, and install them safely.
\n\tConduct inspections per OHS, manufacturing, and company standards, reporting defects and breakdowns.
\n\tMonitor the condition of equipment structural components and determine repairs, replacements, or upgrades.
\n\tHave a thorough understanding on how to weld various materials, including mild steel and stainless steel,
\n\tGeneral understanding on how to operate boiler making equipment and machinery.<\/p>\n
General Electrical Maintenance:<\/p>\n
\tSchedule &\/or perform maintenance on electrical equipment, LV AC\/DC motors, transformers & MV system.

\n\tEnsure routine inspections are carried out as per schedule and develop the necessary schedules where not available.
\n\tMonitor and evaluate installation and commissioning of new electrical equipment.
\n\tPerform basic field and PLC fault-finding. maintain, apply basic programming and troubleshoot AC & DC Variable Speed Drives (VSDs).<\/p>\n
General Mechanical Maintenance:<\/p>\n
\tPerform preventative, corrective, and reactive maintenance.
\n\tIdentify and address maintenance concerns proactively.
\n\tComply with food safety standards (FMCG experience is an advantage). Diagnose and correct mechanical faults in machinery and equipment.
\n\tInspect, operate, and test equipment to detect malfunctions and record all maintenance and repair work performed.
\n\tDirect and train workers in installation and maintenance of mechanical equipment.
\n\tPlan – assembly, installation, or repair work on piping\/aspiration systems, plumbing, carpentry and water\/sewer\/stormwater lines.
\n\tAssist and provide support in performing fault-finding on mechanical equipment
\n\tEnsure daily routine inspections are completed and provide ad hoc assistance as needed.<\/p>\n
