\tSouth African Sugarcane Research Institute(SASRI) a division of the South African Sugar Association (SASA) has a permanent opportunity available for aSafety, Health, Environment and Quality (SHEQ)Officer, based in Mount Edgecombe.
\n\tThe South African Sugarcane Research Institute (SASRI) is a world-renowned agricultural research institute dedicated to supporting the sustainability and productivity of the South African sugar industry. Our research, innovation, and technology transfer initiatives help ensure safe, sustainable, and efficient sugarcane production.
\n\tWe are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented SHEQ Officer to join our team and support the development, implementation, and monitoring of Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality (SHEQ) systems across the Institute.<\/p>\n
Key Responsibilities:<\/p>\n
\tImplement and maintain SHEQ management systems in line with legal, corporate, and industry standards
\n\tConduct risk assessments, safety audits, incident investigations and inspections across operational and research facilities
\n\tEnsure compliance with health, safety, and environmental legislation
\n\tFacilitate SHEQ training, awareness programmes, and incident investigations
\n\tMonitor and report SHEQ performance, identifying areas for continuous improvement
\n\tSupport sustainability and environmental management initiatives
\n\tCollaborate with managers and supervisors to promote a culture of safety and quality<\/p>\n
Minimum Requirements:<\/p>\n
Education and Experience:<\/p>\n
\tNational Diploma or Degree in Safety Management, Environmental Science, or a related discipline
\n\tMinimum of 4 years’ experience in a SHEQ role, preferably within research, agricultural, or manufacturing environment
\n\tSound knowledge of OHS Act, ISO standards (9001, 45001) and related SHEQ regulations<\/p>\n
Knowledge and Skills:<\/p>\n
\tExcellent communication, report writing, and training facilitation skills
\n\tStrong attention to detail, problem-solving ability, and a proactive approach
\n\tDriver’s license is essential.<\/p>\n
