Role Overview<\/p>\n
\tThe\u00a0Broadcast Operations Manager\u00a0will lead the\u00a0Gallop TV Broadcast Department, overseeing all live horse racing broadcasts, production operations, technical operations and racing preview programming across\u00a0KwaZulu-Natal and the Western Cape.
\n\tReporting to the\u00a0Head of Marketing, Events & Broadcast, this role will ensure the highest standards of broadcast quality, storytelling, and technical delivery, while driving the creative development of engaging video content for both broadcast and digital platforms.
\n\tThe Broadcast Operations Manager will manage two regional teams \u2014\u00a0Race Coast KZN Broadcast Manager\u00a0and\u00a0Race Coast Cape Broadcast\u00a0Manager\u2014 who oversee Producers, Presenters, Broadcast Engineers, Sound Operators, Technicians, Video Editors, and Camera Operators.
\n\tThe role requires a strong balance of\u00a0operational leadership,\u00a0technical expertise, and\u00a0creative direction\u00a0to ensure consistent, world-class coverage of all live race meetings, racing previews, and special feature content.<\/p>\n
Key Responsibilities<\/p>\n
Strategic & Operational Leadership<\/p>\n
\tOversee the complete\u00a0broadcast operation\u00a0for Gallop TV in both KwaZulu-Natal and the Western Cape.
\n\tLead and mentor the\u00a0regional broadcast managers\u00a0to ensure smooth delivery of live productions, previews, studio-based shows and TVC (TV Commercial) production.
\n\tSet and maintain\u00a0technical, creative and operational standards\u00a0for all broadcast outputs.
\n\tWork closely with the\u00a0Head of Marketing, Events & Broadcast\u00a0to align broadcast content with Race Coast\u2019s overall marketing, sponsorship, and audience engagement strategies.
\n\tDevelop and manage\u00a0production schedules\u00a0for local and national racing content.<\/p>\n
Live Broadcast Management<\/p>\n
\tEnsure seamless\u00a0live coverage of all race meetings, including coordination between production, engineering, and on-course teams.
\n\tSupervise pre-production planning: camera plans, crew deployment, technical setup, and broadcast logistics.
\n\tOversee post-production workflows for replays, highlights, and packaged content.
\n\tManage signal quality and compliance for\u00a0Gallop TV\u2019s feeds to Telemedia and to the SABC\u00a0and liaise with SABC broadcast teams to ensure consistent communication and technical coordination with their broadcast team.<\/p>\n
Racecourse Audio-Visual & Venue Experience Oversight<\/p>\n
Tasks:<\/p>\n
\tOversee the end-to-end delivery of audio-visual execution across all large-format screens, in-venue LED displays, information boards and betting-related content systems at all Race Coast venues.
\n\tEnsure seamless broadcast feed integration with on-course screens for race days, major events, corporate hospitality, and public race-day activations.
\n\tOversee audio and public-address systems to ensure race commentary, announcements, and entertainment audio are delivered clearly and professionally.
\n\tCoordinate with technical crews, venue operations, and third-party AV partners to manage system checks, troubleshooting, and live support on race days.
\n\tMaintain and continuously improve race-day fan experience through audio-visual quality, real-time racing information delivery, and on-screen content strategy.
\n\tProvide strategic guidance and future-proofing for venue AV and sound system upgrades, ensuring synergy with broadcast technology advancements.<\/p>\n
Content Creation & Innovation<\/p>\n
\tOversee the conceptualisation and creation of\u00a0racing previews,\u00a0feature segments, and\u00a0adverts\u00a0for both broadcast and social media.
\n\tDrive innovation in\u00a0video storytelling and viewer engagement\u00a0to grow the audience for the sport of horse racing.
\n\tCollaborate with the\u00a0Digital Marketing and Creative Design teams\u00a0to align broadcast and digital content strategies.<\/p>\n
Technical Oversight<\/p>\n
\tOversee all\u00a0technical infrastructure\u00a0and equipment used in the broadcast operations, including OB vans, camera systems, editing suites, and sound equipment, ensuring adherence to professional standards.
\n\tWork closely with Broadcast Engineers and Technicians on maintenance, system upgrades and troubleshooting to ensure uptime.
\n\tEnsure all broadcast activities comply with relevant\u00a0technical, safety and regulatory requirements.
\n\tContinuously keep abreast of broadcast technology advancements, production techniques, and viewer engagement trends.
\n\tIdentify and recommend enhancements or upgrades\u00a0to ensure Gallop TV maintains the\u00a0highest broadcast standards\u00a0and delivers an optimum viewing experience across all platforms.\u00a0<\/p>\n
People & Performance Management<\/p>\n

Budgeting & Reporting<\/p>\n
\tManage the\u00a0broadcast department budget, including staffing, equipment, and operational production costs.
\n\tEnsure cost efficiency while maintaining production quality.
\n\tReport monthly on operational performance, audience engagement and broadcast innovations to the Head of Marketing, Events & Broadcast.<\/p>\n
Required Skills & Competencies<\/p>\n
\tProven experience managing\u00a0live broadcast production operations\u00a0in sports, media, or entertainment.
\n\tStrong understanding of\u00a0broadcast technology, broadcast engineering, live signal transmission, and post-production workflows.
\n\tExcellent leadership and\u00a0team management abilities\u00a0across multi-regional teams.
\n\tCreative and technical understanding of\u00a0viewer engagement\u00a0and content impact.
\n\tStrong organisational and\u00a0project management skills.
\n\tExcellent\u00a0communication skills\u00a0and experience liaising with external partners (e.g., SABC, production vendors).
\n\tHigh resilience and performance under high-pressure, live broadcast environments.<\/p>\n
Qualifications<\/p>\n
\tBachelor\u2019s degree or diploma in\u00a0Broadcast Production, Media, Film & Television, or related field.
\n\tMinimum\u00a08\u201310 years\u2019 experience\u00a0in broadcast operations, including at least\u00a03 years in a senior management or executive production role.
\n\tExperience in\u00a0sports broadcasting\u00a0(horse racing, in particular) highly advantageous.
\n\tKnowledge of\u00a0digital broadcast integration and streaming\u00a0advantageous.<\/p>\n
