Job Summary<\/p>\n
\tThis role involves providing expert legal guidance across the Group, with a primary focus on commercial contract drafting, management, and central oversight of the contracts database.
\n\tThe role requires close engagement with internal stakeholders and external advisors to ensure contractual compliance, mitigate legal and commercial risk, and support strategic business objectives. In addition, the Legal Advisor will handle debt recovery and dispute resolution matters, manage litigation processes where necessary, and contribute to departmental growth through effective reporting and administrative oversight.<\/p>\n
Responsibilities and Duties<\/p>\n
\tDraft, review, and negotiate commercial contracts across the Group
\n\tMaintain, manage, and update the contracts database, ensuring accurate recordkeeping and version control
\n\tProvide proactive legal advice to internal departments on contractual and commercial matters
\n\tEnsure compliance with contractual obligations and relevant legislation
\n\tAdvise on risk mitigation strategies in contracts and commercial dealings
\n\tCentralise contract governance and streamline contract management processes within the Group
\n\tProvide legal support on debt recovery matters, including negotiation of settlements, Acknowledgements of Debt (AODs), and account reconciliations
\n\tManage litigation processes, including High Court and Magistrate Court matters, and liaise with external law firms, Attorneys, and Advocates
\n\tPrepare legal correspondence and advise on dispute resolution strategies
\n\tInvestigate and resolve discrepancies related to contractual or financial matters
\n\tTrack and report on the progress of litigation and debt recovery matters
\n\tConduct administrative duties including invoice processing, reporting, calculation of balances, and recordkeeping
\n\tSupport departmental growth by assisting with team engagement and knowledge sharing
\n\tMaintain budget targets and monitor compliance with internal administrative processes<\/p>\n
Qualifications and Skills<\/p>\n
\tMatric \/ Grade 12
\n\tLLB or relevant law degree
\n\tProfessional registration with the relevant regulatory body
\n\t3\u20135 years post-article experience in a legal or commercial environment, with proven experience in commercial contract drafting and management
\n\tKnowledge of civil procedures, credit acts, and other applicable legislation
\n\tStrong literacy, numeracy, and commercial acumen
\n\tExperience with debt collection systems (e.g., Swordfish) advantageous
\n\tStrong file and document management skills
\n\tValid driver\u2019s license (Code 08) and willingness to travel
\n\tExcellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills
\n\tAbility to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment<\/p>\n
