Job Primary Purpose<\/p>\n
\tThe primary purpose of these positions is to contribute to the teaching and learning of Law modules, engage in research and scholarly activities, participate in community and stakeholder engagement, provide leadership at the Programme level, and undertake administrative responsibilities related to the discipline, in alignment with the University’s strategic and operational objectives.<\/p>\n
Key Performance Areas:<\/p>\n
Teaching and Learning:<\/p>\n
\tProvide theoretically informed and pedagogically sound teaching, including online learning.
\n\tStay updated on all new teaching methods, methodologies and technologies.
\n\tParticipate in the development of Law modules and curriculum design.
\n\tEvaluate and grade students’ assignments, projects, and exams.
\n\tServe on School and Faculty committees
\n\tProvide support to students and other colleagues.<\/p>\n
Research:\u00a0<\/p>\n
\tConducting research and publishing in accredited journals.\u00a0
\n\tParticipate in collaborative research projects.
\n\tPresent papers at National and International Conferences.
\n\tSupervise undergraduate (4th year LLB students) and postgraduate students.
\n\tEngage in scholarship as required to support teaching activities and continually update knowledge.<\/p>\n
Engagement:<\/p>\n
\tEngagement through which knowledge and skills are used to benefit the discipline\/ profession and the community.
\n\tAttend and participate in committees, conferences, and other events in and outside of the institution.
\n\tParticipate in and develop external networks, for example, to contribute to student recruitment, facilitate outreach work, or build relationships for future activities.
\n\tUndertake local, national and international visits in order to establish partnerships.<\/p>\n
Leadership and Administration:<\/p>\n
\tProvide leadership and coordination at the discipline and programme levels.
\n\tCollaborate with academic colleagues and support staff, in the capacity of module or programme coordinator, to ensure that student needs and expectations are effectively met.
\n\tResponsible for administrative tasks related to teaching and learning, research and engagement.
\n\tCompile and maintain\u00a0quality study guides and other teaching and learning materials.
\n\tResponsible for administrative duties in areas such as admissions, timetabling and examinations.<\/p>\n
Minimum Requirements:<\/p>\n
Educational Qualifications:\u00a0<\/p>\n
\tDoctoral degree in Law obtained from an accredited university or institution.<\/p>\n
Certification and Professional\u00a0Registrations:<\/p>\n
\tAdmission as an Attorney or an Advocate of the High Court.<\/p>\n
Years of Experience:<\/p>\n
\t5\u00a0Years of experience in lecturing at a university are required.<\/p>\n
Minimum Requirements:<\/p>\n
\tSound functional knowledge and application of Law concepts in South African and international contexts.
\n\tSound functional knowledge and application of Law concepts in research locally and internationally.
\n\tSound functional knowledge and application of Law concepts in community engagement locally and international contexts.
\n\tDemonstrated ability to understand, teach, and analyse paradigms in the field of Law in local and international contexts.
\n\tAbility to conduct lectures and assessments in the field of Law using blended methods of teaching and utilising technology such as Moodle platforms.
\n\tAbility to conduct research, publish in accredited journals, and present papers at national and international conferences.
\n\tAbility to engage communities and stakeholders of the University. Demonstrate ability to utilise administrative systems and manage administrative functions.
\n\tProvide leadership and administration at the discipline and programme levels.
\n\tCo-ordinate with others (such as support staff or academic colleagues) to ensure student needs and expectations are met.
\n\tGood interpersonal skills, including communication skills.
\n\tCoordinate activities at the module and programme level to ensure that all modules are delivered in accordance with the required academic standards and quality benchmarks.
\n\tAbility to collaborate effectively with senior management and other key stakeholders within and outside the University, and to provide legal insight and advice at a local and national level.<\/p>\n
