The Capital Accountant will take full ownership of the Company\u2019s capital accounting environment and fixed asset governance framework within a growing, capital-intensive mining operation.<\/p>\n
Role Overview:<\/p>\n
\tThe successful candidate will establish, strengthen and institutionalise capital accounting systems, componentisation practices and lifecycle cost governance. As the asset base expands, this role is expected to evolve into a more senior Capital and Technical Accounting leadership position within the organisation.
\n\tThis is not a transactional accounting role.
\n\tThis is a site-based role reporting into the Finance Department.<\/p>\n
Suitable candidates must possess the following minimum qualifications and skills:<\/p>\n
\tGrade 12\/ Matric or equivalent (Maths & Physical Science NOT mandatory)
\n\tChartered Accountant (CA(SA)) \u2013 Mandatory
\n\tStrong technical IFRS knowledge, specifically IAS 16 (Property, Plant and Equipment), IAS 36 (Impairment of Assets) and related standards<\/p>\n
Suitable candidates must have the following work experience:<\/p>\n
\t3\u20135 years post-articles experience
\n\tMining or heavy industrial experience will be advantageous
\n\tDemonstrated experience managing fixed asset registers in capital-intensive environments
\n\tExperience overseeing assets under construction (CWIP), capitalisation processes and component accounting
\n\tExposure to audit engagements involving large PPE balances
\n\tExperience engaging with Engineering, Maintenance and Operations in operational environments
\n\tProven ability to work within ERP environments and Capital Asset Management (CAM) systems (e.g., SAP or equivalent)
\n\tAdvanced analytical and financial modelling capability
\n\tStrong understanding of asset life cycle costing and capital governance
\n\tAbility to translate operational data into financial insight<\/p>\n
The successful candidate will be responsible for, but not be limited to:<\/p>\n
\tTake full accountability for the integrity, completeness and accuracy of the fixed asset register
\n\tEstablish and formalise capital accounting controls, policies and governance structures
\n\tEnsure strict compliance with IAS 16, including appropriate componentisation of plant and mining equipment
\n\tImplement disciplined depreciation management aligned to operational asset usage
\n\tOversee and manage rotables and major components, ensuring depreciation ceases when components are removed and recommences when reinstalled and available for use
\n\tOversee all capital work-in-progress (CWIP) balances and ensure accurate and timely transfer of completed projects into operational assets
\n\tEnsure appropriate capitalisation of qualifying expenditure and enforce capital versus expense discipline
\n\tLeverage Capital Asset Management systems to analyse asset performance and life cycle cost trends
\n\tIdentify assets \u2014 particularly underground Trackless Mobile Machinery (TMM) \u2014 where maintenance costs exceed lifecycle assumptions
\n\tProvide financial insight into repair-versus-replace decisions and actively contribute to capital replacement planning discussions
\n\tMonitor impairment indicators and support technical accounting assessments
\n\tPrepare PPE disclosures and engage directly with external auditors
\n\tBuild a scalable capital accounting framework capable of supporting significant asset growth<\/p>\n
