\tHyundai Automotive South Africa is looking for a Gearbox Technician to join its Service Department. The purpose of the Gearbox Technician is to provide high-quality technical support, gearbox repairs, and maintenance services for Hyundai vehicles, ensuring that all work is performed to the highest standards of quality, safety, and efficiency.
\n\tReporting to the Service Manager, the Gearbox Technician will support the Service Department in delivering exceptional customer service, minimizing vehicle downtime, and maintaining Hyundai\u2019s reputation for reliability and excellence. \u00a0
\n\tThe Gearbox Technician will work closely with the workshop team to diagnose, repair, overhaul, and maintain manual and automatic transmission systems, contributing to the overall success and efficiency of the service operations.
\n\tThis role is essential in helping Hyundai Automotive South Africa uphold the highest standards in vehicle service, repair, and maintenance, ensuring customer satisfaction and continued business growth.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Responsibilities:<\/p>\n
\tPerform diagnostic tests and inspections to identify vehicle problems
\n\tDiagnose faults in manual, automatic, CVT, and dual-clutch transmission systems using diagnostic equipment.
\n\tRemove, disassemble, inspect, and rebuild gearboxes and related components.
\n\tConduct transmission overhauls and component replacements (clutch assemblies, torque converters, valve bodies, mechatronics units, etc.).
\n\tPerform software updates and calibrations where applicable.
\n\tInterpret technical manuals, wiring diagrams, and manufacturer bulletins.
\n\tConduct road tests to verify repair quality.
\n\tRepair and replace parts as needed, including engines, transmissions, brakes, and electrical systems
\n\tPerform routine maintenance tasks, such as oil changes, tire rotations, and alignments
\n\tDocument all work performed and maintain accurate records
\n\tProvide technical feedback to Service Advisors.
\n\tAssist apprentices and junior technicians with technical guidance.
\n\tCommunicate with customers regarding vehicle issues and recommended repairs
\n\tKeep work area clean and organized
\n\tAdhere to all safety regulations and company policies<\/p>\n
Requirements:<\/p>\n
\tMatric Certificate (Grade 12)
\n\tQualified Motor Mechanic (Red Seal Trade Test Certificate preferred).
\n\tAutomotive transmission specialization certification advantageous.
\n\t3\u20135 years\u2019 experience in gearbox repairs and overhauls
\n\tStrong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
\n\tAbility to work independently and as part of a team
\n\tExcellent customer service and communication skills
\n\tValid driver’s license and clean driving record<\/p>\n
