To provide holistic patient centered nursing care to oncology patients undergoing chemotherapy and other modalities of treatment in accordance to Cancercare\u2019s standards, policies and procedures.<\/p>\n
\tTo assess, develop, implement ,evaluate and record patient care.
\n\tTo work with members of inter professional team to ensure quality of care for patients are maintained and that the patients\u2019 needs are met.
\n\tTo conform to the Health and Safety regulations whilst dealing with cytotoxic chemotherapies ensuring a safe working environment.
\n\tTo provide evidence based clinical advice, education and support to patients and relatives.
\n\tTo comply with relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, protocols and codes of conduct of Cancercare and the bodies that accredit our company and profession.<\/p>\n

\tAs per professional all services delivered needs to be in line with the Cancercare Values, of CARE. Administration of chemotherapy and other oncology treatments<\/p>\n
\tActs in a supervisory capacity over Chemotherapy Extenders\/Physician Extenders.
\n\tProvide and supervise the delivery of evidence based\u00a0 holistic nursing care, using the nursing process to assess, plan, implement and record the plan of care for patients undergoing chemotherapy .
\n\tCorrectly interpreting and managing blood results, in consultation with a doctor
\n\tMonitor, interpret and record patient\u2019s vital data, reporting abnormalities to the doctor.
\n\tEstablish and keep record of patients allergies.
\n\tProvide patients with relevant written information regarding their treatment and ensure patient has a signed informed consent.
\n\tDemonstrate knowledge and competency in intravenous access, the management of intravenous catheters, including the management of extravasation.
\n\tProgram the infusion pumps as applicable to patient specifics and instruct patients on the usage of pumps for home care as applicable.
\n\tAdminister chemotherapy and other oncology treatment including anti-emetics and supportive therapy according to protocol.
\n\tVerify chemotherapy drugs as per protocol and query the rationale behind the decision\u00a0 of chemotherapy regimens that varies from standard regimens with the treating oncologist. \u00a0
\n\tEducate patient on the effects and side effects of chemotherapy and other oncology treatments.
\n\tPrevent, identify, report and record adverse reactions of chemotherapy and other oncology treatments to the doctor.
\n\tProvide emotional support for patient and family during treatment and refer to Oncology Social Worker as necessary.
\n\tCo-ordinate follow up of treatment plans by scheduling patients correctly.
\n\tProvide applicable discharge instructions and health education to patients and significant others including an emergency contact number of a health care professional who is available 24hours.
\n\tCollaborate with members of the inter-professional team and service providers to ensure optimal patient.

Safety awareness and risk management<\/p>\n
\tPractice the principle of infection prevention and control and adhere to all standard precautions inclusive of PPE\u2019s as per institutional policy.
\n\tAdhere to the Sharps protocol.
\n\tMaintain a therapeutic, clean and safe working environment in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
\n\tKeep a record of chemotherapy adverse events.
\n\tEnsure effective risk prevention and report and act upon potential\/actual risk identified
\n\tApply Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation as necessary.
\n\tCorrectly use clean and store equipment as per institutional policy.
\n\tReport equipment needing repair or replacement to the registered nurse\/UBM.
\n\tAdhere to the Medical\u00a0 Waste management principles inclusive of cytotoxic waste
\n\tCheck emergency trolley\/oxygen cylinders
\n\tPrevent and educate patients on the risk of falling as applicable
\n\tTo minimize the risk of infections.
\n\tTo prevent sharp injuries.
\n\tCompliance and adherence to legislation and policies
\n\tTo ensure staff and patient safety
\n\tEnsure appropriate resources present to avoid treatment delay.<\/p>\n
Quality assurance<\/p>\n
\tActively support and participate in ongoing Continuous Quality Improvement activities.
\n\tAdhere to patient satisfaction program as per institutional program and protocol.
\n\tRefer patient complaints to the chemo supervisor\/UBM\/Doctor.
\n\tTo ensure quality care rendered.<\/p>\n
Billings<\/p>\n
\tCorrect capturing of patient billings daily.
\n\tOrdering of Consumables as necessary
\n\tConfirm correct medical aid authorization of treatment.
\n\tTo ensure correct billing of patients.<\/p>\n
Continued Professional Development<\/p>\n
\tKeep up to date with Cancer care\u2019s policies and procedures.
\n\tParticipate in ongoing in \u00a0personal and professional development.
\n\tMaintain personal competence in BLS.
\n\tMaintain personal competence in GCP for trials where applicable.
\n\tAssist with the coaching of subordinates and junior staff within the unit
\n\tParticipate in unit academics.
\n\tTo ensure and improve knowledge, skills and attitudes relevant to oncology practice.

Requirements<\/p>\n
Required minimum education:<\/p>\n
\tDegree or Diploma in General Nursing.
\n\tRegistered with SANC<\/p>\n
Required minimum experience:<\/p>\n
\t\u00a03-5 years recent nursing experience
\n\tOncology and\/or ICU experience will be advantageous
\n\tGood communication skills
\n\tAble to work well independently and in a team
\n\tMust be competent\u00a0 with insertion of intravenous cannula<\/p>\n
