Responsibilities:<\/p>\n
Leading TB and HIV treatment studies within HIDRU will involve:<\/p>\n
\tIncome generation through grants and contracts as the Principal Investigator;
\n\tLeadership, oversight and management of a research team in conducting TB and HIV treatment studies;
\n\tEnsuring quality data is collected and reviewed, involvement in data analysis and the write up of study findings;
\n\tPublishing articles in peer-reviewed journals.
\n\tContribute to research grants and conference abstracts
\n\tContribution to management of the Unit or SAMRC through meeting organization, participation in committees, reviews, and organisational processes. Includes assistance with Unit reporting processes, organizing academic days, journal clubs etc.<\/p>\n
Core Requirements:<\/p>\n
\tPhD in Biomedical Science, Epidemiology or Public Health
\n\tMinimum of six years post PhD experience in a research environment related to TB and HIV research.
\n\t\u00a0A minimum of 10 years\u2019 project management experience, including 3 years in a leadership role in TB and HIV treatment studies trials which involved research staff management.
\n\tRecord of 30 lifetime publications (ISI journal articles, editorials or book chapters and technical reports) with at least 9 as first\/senior author.
\n\tRecord of successful income generation\/grant application of = R5 mil-lifetime.
\n\tNRF (C or above) rated OR evidence of international recognition in a focal area within field of research.
\n\tSuccessfully supervised =8 post-graduate students, including Hon\/Masters\/PhD, to completion.
\n\tMembership of national and international bodies\/committees.
\n\tA track record of working effectively with relevant government departments, national and international partners, funders and other stakeholders.
\n\t\u00a0Evidence of research translation efforts and international leadership in the field.
\n\tExcellent interpersonal relations and communication skills.
\n\tWorking knowledge of statistics.
\n\tCode 08 Manual Driver license.<\/p>\n
Advantageous:<\/p>\n
\tPersonal invitations(s) to serve on national and at least 1 international bodies\/committees.
\n\tMedical degree, with experience in managing HIV \/ TB.
\n\tMinimum of 2 years\u2019 experience engaged in teaching or training.
\n\tUniversity affiliation at associate or full Professorial level.<\/p>\n
