Introduction:<\/p>\n
\tThe Chicken Farm Manager is responsible for the effective management of day-to-day chicken house operations. The role ensures optimal animal welfare, productivity, hygiene, and staff supervision while maintaining strict compliance with health, safety, and biosecurity standards.
\n\tThe position plays a key role in achieving production targets, reducing losses, and maintaining efficient farm operations.<\/p>\n
Job Purpose:<\/p>\n
\tTo manage and oversee chicken house operations to ensure healthy livestock, efficient production, effective staff management, and compliance with operational, welfare, and safety standards.<\/p>\n
REQUIREMENTS
\nMinimum education (essential):<\/p>\n
\tNational Senior Certificate (Grade 12)<\/p>\n
Minimum applicable experience (years):<\/p>\n
\t3-5 years\u2019 experience in poultry farming (poultry or dairy preferred)<\/p>\n
Required nature of experience:<\/p>\n
\tHands-on management of poultry or livestock operations
\n\tMonitoring animal health, growth, and welfare
\n\tManaging staff in a farm or agricultural environment
\n\tImplementing biosecurity, hygiene, and safety procedures<\/p>\n
Skills and Knowledge (essential):<\/p>\n
\tKnowledge of poultry health, welfare, and biosecurity practices
\n\tUnderstanding of feeding, ventilation. Temperature, and hygiene controls
\n\tBasic health and safety knowledge
\n\tRecord-keeping and basic administrative skills<\/p>\n
Other:<\/p>\n
\tPhysically fit and comfortable working in a farm environment
\n\tAbility to work long or irregular hours when required
\n\tStrong communication skills
\n\tReliable, accountable, and able to work independently<\/p>\n

\nAnimal Health and Welfare<\/p>\n
\tEnsure chicken health and welfare standards are consistently met
\n\tMonitor mortality, illness, and abnormal behaviour and act promptly
\n\tEnsure correct administration and recording of medication
\n\tMaintain mortality rates within agreed farm targets<\/p>\n
Production & Productivity<\/p>\n
\tAchieve production and growth targets per cycle
\n\tMaintain feed conversion ratios within target range
\n\tEnsure effective preparation for placement and harvesting cycles
\n\tImplement corrective actions to reduce losses and improve output<\/p>\n
Hygiene, Biosecurity & Safety<\/p>\n
\tEnsure strict adherence to hygiene and biosecurity protocols
\n\tMaintain clean and sanitary chicken house environments
\n\tEnsure pest control measures are implemented and effective
\n\tEnsure compliance with health and safety regulations<\/p>\n
Staff Management & Supervision<\/p>\n
\tSupervise, train, and manage chicken house staff
\n\tEnsure staff understand and follow operational procedures
\n\tMonitor attendance, performance, and discipline
\n\tPromote safe and productive working practices<\/p>\n
Administrative & Record Keeping<\/p>\n
\tMaintain accurate records of mortality, feed usage, medication, and production data
\n\tSubmit reports to management accurately and on time
\n\tMonitor stock levels and place orders when required
\n\tEnsure farm data supports informed decision-making<\/p>\n
