We\u2019re looking for a Research & Development Technologist to join our Milling Division. The R&D Technologist will be responsible for developing products according to brief, lead all laboratory and factory trials, and manage delivery of R&D projects from concept to launch. This includes technical support in flour applications, coatings, and breading solutions to improve product quality and meet customer needs.
\n\tThe role will be based at Pretoria West and will report into the Technical Manager.<\/p>\n
Minimum Requirements\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>\n
\tBSc or BSc (Hons) in Food Science or National Diploma or BTech in Food Technology or equivalent qualification.
\n\tMinimum of 2 years R&D experience with in-store baking and\/or plant baking experience required.
\n\tBasic knowledge of flour, it\u2019s quality specifications and associated applications, namely coatings and breading.
\n\tComputer literate.<\/p>\n
Duties & Responsibilities\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0
\nInnovation:<\/p>\n
\tConduct regular trade reviews and identify gaps in the market for potential innovations.
\n\tAssist in customer presentations and conduct proactive product development.
\n\tIdentify opportunities in current product recipes and processes for recipe and cost optimisation.<\/p>\n
Product Development:<\/p>\n
\tDevelop products according to project brief or customer specification.
\n\tConduct the necessary laboratory and factory trials for the launch of new products.
\n\tDevelop make-up recipe and cooking instructions, for premixes\/maize\/coatings, respectively.
\n\tLiaise with suppliers for the sourcing of new ingredients.
\n\tKeep abreast with new ingredient technologies for recipe and cost optimisation.
\n\tScreening of all raw materials to ensure they are suitable for the application and\/or manufacturing plant.
\n\tConduct sensory evaluation\/tasting sessions for products that are in development.
\n\tDevelop product specifications.
\n\tConduct product shelf-life tests and reports.
\n\tTrain the production teams on how to manufacture the new product while conducting factory trials in conjunction with them.
\n\tLiaise with commercial teams to complete product costings.<\/p>\n
Project Management:<\/p>\n
\tProvide input towards the development of project timelines for all projects in the R&D pipeline.
\n\tManage project delivery against project timelines.<\/p>\n
Quality Assessments:<\/p>\n
\tConduct quality assessments such as softness, texture, volume, water activity studies, sensory analysis where required.
\n\tInterpretation of data collected from the quality assessment instruments.<\/p>\n
\u00a0Administration & Reporting:<\/p>\n
\tRecording of all laboratory trial data.
\n\tEnsuring all relevant QC & Food Safety documents are completed for all new ingredients.
\n\tCompleting and archiving of all laboratory trial data.
\n\tCompiling of all factory trial reports.
\n\tDrafting of project specifications.
\n\tCompleting shelf-life test reports.<\/p>\n
