\tBidvest Tank Terminals has an opportunity for an Environmental Officer. This opportunity exists within the SHE department, based in Durban, reporting to the Environmental Specialist. The candidate must meet the following minimum criteria:<\/p>\n
Minimum Requirements\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>\n
\tMatric
\n\tBachelor\u2019s degree in Environmental Science or Environmental Management.
\n\tMinimum of 3 years\u2019 experience in the field of environmental management preferably in the chemical \/ petrochemical industry
\n\tSolid understanding of ISO14001
\n\tExperience with environmental monitoring tools and data analysis software.
\n\tExcellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure in high-stakes operational environments<\/p>\n
Duties and Responsibilities\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>\n
\tAssist the Environmental Specialist in ensuring the safe, efficient and economical running of all Environmental activities for the Region
\n\tEnsure compliance to all environmental authorisations, permits and licences and ensure records are kept for inspections by Regulators
\n\tLiaises constructively and consults with employees, peers, Independent Contractors and Suppliers, to ensure the development and maintenance of environmental standards
\n\tEnsure EMPs are up to date and are complied with
\n\tMaintain communication flow to and from the SHE department and other departments and create a positive Environmental awareness
\n\tLead the Terminal environmental effort by liaising with contractors to ensure that all agreed IMS procedures are implemented
\n\tInvestigate and report on the cause of environmental accidents \/ incidents and near misses
\n\tEnsure that adequate corrective action is undertaken and recommend preventative measures
\n\tEnsure that any environmental incidents that occur on the Terminal are recorded and are properly investigated and closed out satisfactorily
\n\tConduct daily site visits and ensure all non-conformances are corrected immediately
\n\tUnderstand the On-site Emergency Response Plan as well as the Major Hazardous Installation requirements
\n\tEnsures that the legal and moral duties of the employer to “care for\u201d the environment are effectively carried out
\n\tCollects and logs ESG data e.g. energy, water, waste etc
\n\tControls and Maintains Environmental records \u2013 waste invoices, waste manifests, permits, licences
\n\tEnsures compliance with ISO 14001 system
\n\tParticipates in internal and external audits
\n\tConduct site inspection to identify deviations and prompt action
\n\tMonitoring of storm water and effluent drainage. Ensuring that samples of storm water and effluent are taken and sent to the lab for testing as well as reconciling results
\n\tMonitoring of air quality and e-noses alarm activations
\n\tEnsures that all environmental aspects and impacts are assessed and appropriately addressed.
\n\tGeneration of environmental cost centre Purchase Requests and tracking of delivery of items\/servicesEnsures compliance with Environmental legal requirements
\n\tEnsures appropriate education\/ awareness programmes are in place
\n\tMonitors and appropriately reduces costs of waste and spill material
\n\tParticipates in Berth and site walkabouts with TNPA
\n\tConduct LDAR Programme<\/p>\n
Knowledge, skills and abilities required:<\/p>\n
\tComprehensive knowledge of the Environmental management systems and National Ports Act
\n\tStrong Knowledge of Policy and Environmental Legislation
\n\tExcellent communication (written and verbal) and report writing skills
\n\tAdvanced computer literacy and Microsoft kit skills
\n\tProject management
\n\tEnergetic and dynamic
\n\tHands-on attitude
\n\tTeam player<\/p>\n
