\n\tWe\u2019re looking for a Senior Backend Software Engineer who loves building robust, well designed software \u2014 someone who\u2019s motivated by scale, impact, and technical craftsmanship, and who wants to help modernise and shape one of the country\u2019s largest financial services environments.
\n\tAs a Senior Backend Software Engineer, you\u2019ll be a core member of a modern, product aligned engineering squad, working closely with product, architecture, and platform teams to deliver meaningful outcomes.<\/p>\n
Output\/Core Tasks:<\/p>\n
\tActively participate in agile ceremonies (stand\u2011ups, planning, reviews, retrospectives) and contribute to continuous improvement of team ways of working.
\n\tCollaborate with the Product Owner and Tech Lead to translate product and business requirements into well\u2011scoped technical work and delivery increments.
\n\tTake ownership of delivering high\u2011quality software that meets sprint and release goals, with a strong focus on reliability, maintainability, and performance.
\n\tContribute to solution design and technical decision\u2011making, ensuring alignment with agreed architectural standards and patterns.
\n\tWrite clean, well\u2011tested, and well\u2011documented code, adhering to engineering best practices and team coding standards.
\n\tEmbed quality into development through unit tests, integration tests, and automated checks as part of the CI\/CD pipeline.
\n\tSupport deployment, observability, and operational readiness of services across testing and production environments, working closely with platform and DevOps teams.
\n\tCommunicate progress, risks, and dependencies transparently within the team, and proactively raise issues that may impact delivery.
\n\tShare knowledge, patterns, and learnings with peers through code reviews, documentation, and informal mentoring.
\n\tContinuously improve your technical skills and contribute to improving the team\u2019s engineering practices, tools, and delivery capabilities.<\/p>\n

Qualifications:\u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>\n
\tRelevant Computer Science degree or diploma
\n\tHonours or postgraduate degree preferred
\n\tJava Certification will be advantageous<\/p>\n
Experience:\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
\t5+ years\u2019 professional experience building and maintaining enterprise grade backend applications using Java.
\n\tProven experience working as a senior individual contributor within agile delivery teams, contributing to production systems at scale.<\/p>\n
Backend & Java Engineering<\/p>\n
\tStrong proficiency in Java, with a deep understanding of object oriented design principles, data structures, and core language constructs.
\n\tSolid experience designing and building server side applications using the Spring ecosystem, including Spring Boot, Spring MVC, Spring Security, Spring Data, and Spring Batch.
\n\tExperience building and integrating RESTful APIs for internal and external consumers.<\/p>\n
Architecture & Design<\/p>\n
\tHands on experience with microservices\/ miniservices based architectures, including common design patterns, service integration, and resilience considerations.
\n\tAbility to contribute to solution design and technical discussions, balancing functional requirements with non functional concerns (performance, security, scalability, maintainability).<\/p>\n
Testing & Quality Engineering<\/p>\n
\tStrong experience with automated testing practices, including unit and integration testing using frameworks such as JUnit and Mockito.
\n\tUnderstanding of testability, clean code principles, and embedding quality into the development lifecycle.<\/p>\n
DevOps & Delivery<\/p>\n
\tPractical experience working within CI\/CD pipelines and modern delivery workflows.
\n\tHands on exposure to build and deployment tooling such as Maven, Gradle, Docker, and Kubernetes.
\n\tFamiliarity with version control and collaboration tools including Git, Jira, and Confluence.
\n\tExperience supporting deployments and operational readiness in test and production environments.<\/p>\n
Data & Persistence<\/p>\n
\tExperience working with relational databases and ORM technologies, including JPA and Hibernate.
\n\tAbility to design and work with data models and SQL as part of backend service implementation.
\n\tEnterprise & Platform Context (Advantageous)
\n\tExperience with enterprise integration and middleware technologies (e.g. messaging platforms, application servers).
\n\tExposure to large scale enterprise environments and legacy platforms, with the ability to modernise or integrate where required.
\n\tWays of Working
\n\tGood understanding of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) and agile development practices.
\n\tExperience working within scaled agile or large delivery environments is advantageous.
\n\tDomain Knowledge (Advantageous)
\n\tExperience within financial services environments, particularly life insurance or related domains, is beneficial.<\/p>\n

\tSound knowledge of backend architecture concepts, including service\u2011based designs, integration patterns, and non\u2011functional considerations (performance, security, resilience).
\n\tSolid grounding in clean code and object\u2011oriented design principles, and how they support maintainable systems.
\n\tUnderstanding of impact and risk analysis for technical changes across applications, data, and dependent systems.
\n\tKnowledge of modern software delivery practices, including CI\/CD concepts, release management, and production readiness.
\n\tFamiliarity with quality engineering concepts, including automated testing strategies and their role in fast, reliable delivery.
\n\tUnderstanding of agile and iterative delivery models and how cross\u2011functional teams collaborate to deliver outcomes.<\/p>\n
