Role Purpose<\/p>\n
\tThe Head of Controls \u2013 SWC is responsible for providing leadership, oversight, and continuous improvement of the control environment across South Africa and the West & Central Africa partner markets.
\n\tThe role ensures that CARM governance, control testing, in\u2011market assurance activities, and change\u2011related control reviews are effectively designed, embedded, and understood across the entire SWC cluster.
\n\tThis position is the primary custodian of control excellence for SWC and acts as a key enabler of compliant, well\u2011governed, and efficient business operations.<\/p>\n
2. Key Responsibilities<\/p>\n
Oversight & Leadership on Controls<\/p>\n
\tLead and continually strengthen the controls environment across SWC, ensuring alignment with global control standards and market requirements.
\n\tProvide clear direction, challenge, and support to business functions on control expectations.
\n\tEnsure control ownership is clearly defined, understood, and consistently applied across all markets.
\n\tDrive an annual control improvement roadmap for SWC.<\/p>\n
CARM Mapping, Scoping & Testing<\/p>\n
\tOwn and maintain the full CARM framework for SWC.
\n\tLead the annual CARM risk-based scoping process; ensure completeness, accuracy, and alignment with global guidance.
\n\tOversee testing cycles, including first-line execution and independent second-line assurance.
\n\tEnsure quality of documentation, evidence, and remediation tracking.<\/p>\n
In\u2011Market Testing & Deep Dives<\/p>\n
\tPlan and deliver periodic in-market assurance visits (SWC markets).
\n\tConduct deep dives on high-risk process areas to assess design and operational effectiveness of controls.
\n\tIdentify thematic issues, gaps, and areas requiring escalation or structural improvement.
\n\tShare market-specific reports and insights with local leaders and the FD SWC.<\/p>\n
Business Change Processes & Controls Reviews<\/p>\n
\tReview business transformation initiatives, new systems, process changes, route-to-market shifts, and structural reorganisations to ensure controls are embedded from the outset.
\n\tAssess the control impact of new commercial programmes, supply changes, or partnership models.
\n\tProvide clear recommendations and ensure controls are implemented before go-live.<\/p>\n
Training & Communication<\/p>\n
\tDevelop and deliver annual training programmes on CARM, controls, policies, and governance expectations.
\n\tBuild market capability through workshops, targeted coaching, and onboarding for new control owners.
\n\tRegularly communicate updates, policy changes, and insights to drive awareness and accountability.
\n\tCreate materials that translate complex controls concepts into practical guidance for market teams.<\/p>\n

Role Requirements<\/p>\n
\tProfessional Qualifications
\n\tChartered Accountant \/ ACCA \/ CPA (or equivalent).
\n\tStrong background in controls, audit, or assurance.<\/p>\n
Experience<\/p>\n
\t8\u201312+ years\u2019 experience in internal controls, audit, or finance.
\n\tExperience in multi\u2011market or partner\u2011market environments is an advantage.
\n\tStrong understanding of financial processes, CARM\/SOX\/COSO frameworks, and control design.<\/p>\n
