RESPONSIBILITIES:<\/p>\n
The successful candidate will actively participate in the following areas:<\/p>\n
Programme Administration<\/p>\n
\tOrganises and oversees the\u00a0Veterinary\/Nursing Elective Practice\u00a0module as a veterinary academic coordinator.
\n\tMonitor and evaluate students placed in veterinary practices, clinics, or community-based learning sites for their extramural training.
\n\tEnsures compliance with Faculty, University, and regulatory requirements of the BVSc and BVN syllabus.<\/p>\n
Student Support<\/p>\n
\tProvide a guidance document for students entering into elective practice areas aligned with the areas indicated in the study guides.
\n\tProvides mentorship and ensures students meet Day 1 competency skills expected of a new veterinary graduate.
\n\tMonitors student progress and evaluates performance reports from extramural practical rotations, and flags concerns for remedial action.<\/p>\n
Community & Practice Liaison<\/p>\n
\tActs as the link between the university and external veterinary practices.
\n\tBuilds partnerships with clinics, farms, and community organisations to maintain a list of practices willing to assist with extramural training.
\n\tDevelop a system of internal accreditation and evaluation of practices, including training of practice staff in evaluation practices.
\n\tUndertake random screening of practices, based on budgetary restrictions, to evaluate students active within said practices.<\/p>\n
Quality Assurance<\/p>\n
\tEnsures that the practical experiences students gain are relevant to Day One skills, and if not, applies corrective action.
\n\tReviews and updates elective practice guidelines to maintain academic standards.
\n\tCollects feedback from students and partner practices to improve the programme.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Clinical Support<\/p>\n
\tUndertake a limited number of weeks of clinical activities at the OVAH, preferably in the community clinics, to ensure clinical skills remain relevant for the evaluation of extra-mural activities.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Academic & Research Engagement<\/p>\n
\tNetwork with relevant internal and external stakeholders.
\n\tDeliver lectures, seminars, tutorials, and assessments.
\n\tSupport curriculum development and improvement.
\n\tActively participate in faculty research programmes and service-rendering activities.
\n\tPublish research in national and international journals.
\n\tUndertake faculty administrative duties as delegated by the line manager.
\n\tEngage in community outreach activities.
\n\tPursue academic self-development appropriate to career progression.<\/p>\n
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:<\/p>\n
\tA BVSc or BVMCh degree or an equivalent veterinary qualification;\u00a0
\n\tRegistration (or registrable) as a Veterinarian with SAVC; and
\n\tDemonstrate the potential to become a competent lecturer at the undergraduate level.<\/p>\n
