\tThis is a unique opportunity to establish and lead the procurement function at takealot.com from the ground up. As the company’s first Procurement Manager, you will be responsible for creating a strategic, centralized procurement capability that drives value, efficiency, and competitive advantage across the organization.
\n\tYou will build the foundation for a world-class procurement operation, developing policies, processes, and systems while establishing key supplier relationships. This role will evolve into a senior leadership position, with the successful incumbent expected to build and manage a procurement team as the function matures.<\/p>\n
Key Responsibilities: <\/p>\n
Strategic Development & Leadership<\/p>\n
\tDesign and implement a comprehensive procurement strategy aligned with takealot.com’s business objectives and growth plans
\n\tEstablish the procurement function’s vision, mission, and operating model from scratch
\n\tDevelop short, medium, and long-term roadmaps for procurement capability development
\n\tBuild business cases for procurement initiatives and investments
\n\tAct as a strategic advisor to senior leadership on procurement-related matters
\n\tDefine and track key performance indicators (KPIs) for procurement effectiveness<\/p>\n
Process & Policy Development<\/p>\n
\tCreate and implement procurement policies, procedures, and governance frameworks
\n\tDevelop standardized procurement processes including sourcing, contracting, supplier management, and purchase-to-pay workflows
\n\tEstablish approval hierarchies and spending authorities
\n\tDesign and implement a category management approach
\n\tDevelop procurement templates, tools, and documentation
\n\tEnsure compliance with regulatory requirements and corporate governance standards<\/p>\n
Supplier & Stakeholder Management<\/p>\n
\tBuild and maintain strategic relationships with key suppliers across all categories
\n\tDevelop and execute supplier selection, evaluation, and onboarding processes
\n\tNegotiate contracts and commercial terms to achieve optimal value
\n\tImplement supplier performance management frameworks
\n\tIdentify and mitigate supply chain risks
\n\tPartner with internal stakeholders across all departments to understand procurement needs
\n\tEducate and influence stakeholders on procurement best practices<\/p>\n
Cost Management & Value Creation<\/p>\n
\tIdentify and deliver significant cost savings and cost avoidance opportunities
\n\tConduct market analysis and benchmarking to ensure competitive pricing
\n\tDrive value engineering and total cost of ownership (TCO) initiatives
\n\tOptimize working capital through payment terms and inventory management
\n\tDevelop business cases for strategic sourcing initiatives
\n\tTrack and report on procurement savings and value delivered<\/p>\n
Technology & Systems<\/p>\n
\tSelect and implement appropriate procurement technology solutions (e-procurement, SRM, contract management)
\n\tDrive digitalization of procurement processes
\n\tIntegrate procurement systems with existing ERP and financial systems
\n\tLeverage data analytics for procurement insights and decision-making
\n\tChampion procurement innovation and automation<\/p>\n
Team Building & Development<\/p>\n
\tDevelop a hiring plan and organizational structure for the procurement function
\n\tRecruit, develop, and lead a high-performing procurement team as the function scales
\n\tCreate career development frameworks and succession plans
\n\tBuild procurement capability through training and mentoring
\n\tFoster a culture of continuous improvement, collaboration, and excellence
\n\tEstablish the procurement function as a trusted business partner<\/p>\n
Minimum Required Qualification<\/p>\n
\tBachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Commerce, or related field (Essential)
\n\tProfessional procurement qualification (CIPS, CPSM, or equivalent) – Highly Advantageous or Honors<\/p>\n
Minimum Required Experience<\/p>\n
\tMinimum 8-10 years of progressive procurement experience, preferably in retail, e-commerce, logistics, or fast-paced consumer environments<\/p>\n
Minimum Required Competencies<\/p>\n
\tProven track record of building procurement functions or leading significant transformation programs
\n\tDemonstrated experience managing complex, high-value negotiations and contracts
\n\tExperience in strategic sourcing across multiple spend categories
\n\tStrong stakeholder management experience at senior levels
\n\tExperience implementing procurement systems and digital solutions
\n\tTrack record of delivering measurable cost savings and value creation<\/p>\n
