Purpose<\/p>\n
\tPattern Maker plays a critical role in the garment production process by transforming design concepts into technical patterns that can be used for garment production. This role involves working closely with designers, garment technologists, and the production team to create accurate, efficient, and scalable patterns. The Pattern Maker ensures that patterns reflect the original design vision while also considering practical production requirements such as fabric constraints, garment fit, and cost-effectiveness.<\/p>\n
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:<\/p>\n
Pattern Creation and Development:<\/p>\n
\tDevelop accurate patterns from garment sketches or technical drawings, ensuring the correct fit, proportion, and style.
\n\tResponsible for preparing the completed, detailed pattern from the sketch by using the computer pattern designing package.
\n\tCreate patterns for a variety of garment types, such as casual wear, formal wear, outerwear, and activewear, depending on the product range of the leisure design centre.
\n\tEnsure that all patterns are suitable for mass production and meet the brand\u2019s design standards.<\/p>\n
Prototype and Sample Creation:<\/p>\n
\tWork closely with the design team to create initial samples or prototypes for new garments.
\n\tReview and adjust patterns as necessary based on fit sessions, feedback from designers, or testing.<\/p>\n
Pattern Alterations:<\/p>\n
\tModify patterns based on the fit and functional requirements during the prototype fitting sessions.
\n\tAdjust patterns to ensure garment functionality, such as ease of movement or suitability for specific fabric types.<\/p>\n
Collaboration with Designers and Technologists:<\/p>\n
\tLiaise with designers to ensure that the final pattern aligns with their creative vision while considering the technical aspects of production.
\n\tWork with garment technologists and the sample machinist to adjust the patterns according to fabric behaviour, garment construction, and fit assessments.<\/p>\n
Cost Efficiency:<\/p>\n
\tEnsure patterns are designed in a way that maximizes fabric efficiency, minimizing waste and optimizing material usage.
\n\tWork with the production team to suggest pattern adjustments that can reduce costs or improve manufacturing efficiency.<\/p>\n
Documentation and Record Keeping:<\/p>\n
\tMaintain accurate records of pattern designs, modifications, and production instructions.
\n\tStore patterns in an organized manner for easy reference and reuse for future collections or production runs.<\/p>\n
Continuous Improvement:<\/p>\n
\tStay updated with the latest trends and technological advancements in pattern making, including CAD software and sustainable production techniques.
\n\tParticipate in training or professional development opportunities to enhance technical skills and knowledge of pattern-making technologies.<\/p>\n
QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE:<\/p>\n
\tDegree or diploma in Fashion, Pattern Making, Garment Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
\n\tProven experience as a Pattern Maker or Pattern Cutter, particularly within a garment manufacturing or retail design environment.
\n\tExperience with various garment types, fabrics, and styles is essential.
\n\tStrong knowledge of pattern-making techniques, including both manual and digital (CAD) methods.
\n\tGerber system and 3D pattern making experience
\n\tProficiency with pattern-making software (e.g., Gerber system and 3D pattern making knowledge, Lectra, or Optitex).
\n\tStrong understanding of grading techniques for different sizes.
\n\tIn-depth knowledge of garment construction, fabric types, and garment fitting principles.
\n\tFamiliarity with fit standards, industry regulations, and garment specification requirements.<\/p>\n

\tExcellent attention to detail and precision.
\n\tStrong problem-solving abilities, particularly in resolving fit or production issues.
