Responsibilities:<\/p>\n
Performing Analysis<\/p>\n
\tConduct routine and complex microbiological tests independently.
\n\tPerform sample preparation, culturing, enumeration, and identification.
\n\tPerform troubleshooting of methods, equipment, and test deviations.
\n\tEnsure strict adherence to aseptic techniques and microbiological best practices.<\/p>\n
Verification of Results<\/p>\n
\tVerify and interpret microbiological results against known standards and reference data.
\n\tEnsure accuracy, completeness, and reliability of all test results.
\n\tRecord and release results into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).<\/p>\n
Technical Improvements<\/p>\n
\tIdentify opportunities to improve laboratory efficiency and workflow.
\n\tAssist in method optimization and continuous improvement initiatives.<\/p>\n
Adherence to Turnaround Times (TAT)<\/p>\n
\tPrioritize and schedule work to meet departmental turnaround times.
\n\tProvide early warning notifications to the supervisor regarding potential TAT delays.<\/p>\n
Instrument Monitoring and Maintenance<\/p>\n
\tOversee daily performance and operation of microbiology laboratory equipment.
\n\tEnsure proper cleaning, disinfection, calibration, and maintenance.
\n\tReport service, repair, and calibration needs promptly to management.<\/p>\n
Health, Safety & Quality Assurance<\/p>\n
\tComply with Occupational Health and Safety regulations and laboratory biosafety protocols.
\n\tFollow ISO 17025 quality system requirements and contribute to audit readiness.
\n\tImplement corrective actions relating to quality issues in the area of responsibility.
\n\tMaintain acceptable proficiency testing scores.<\/p>\n
Cost Management<\/p>\n
\tMonitor and maintain adequate stock levels of consumables, reagents, and media.
\n\tUse laboratory resources responsibly to manage costs effectively.<\/p>\n
Training & Development<\/p>\n
\tComplete all mandatory laboratory training and competency assessments.
\n\tIdentify additional training needs and request approval where appropriate.
\n\tParticipate in peer training and mentorship when required.<\/p>\n
Client Liaison<\/p>\n
\tMaintain professional and effective communication with internal clients.
\n\tSupport operational teams with technical input where needed.<\/p>\n
General & Business Development<\/p>\n
\tEnsure compliance with company policies, quality systems, and brand standards.
\n\tComplete reports, documentation, and administrative tasks accurately and timeously.
\n\tUse IT systems and tools as required by company procedures.
\n\tParticipate in broader AssureCloud initiatives and uphold company values.
\n\tPerform additional duties within scope, as requested.<\/p>\n
Requirements<\/p>\n
Qualifications:<\/p>\n
\tBSc Degree in Microbiology, Biotechnology, Food Science (with Microbiology major), or Medical Laboratory Science;\u00a0or
\n\tNational Diploma in Biotechnology or Microbiology<\/p>\n
Additional advantageous training:<\/p>\n
\tISO 17025 Internal Auditor Training
\n\tGood Laboratory Practice (GLP)
\n\tHACCP or Food Safety Training
\n\tOccupational Health & Safety Training<\/p>\n
Experience:<\/p>\n
\t1\u20133 years\u2019 practical experience in a microbiology laboratory.
\n\tExperience with classical microbiological methods: culturing, enumeration, isolation, identification.
\n\tExperience working within an ISO 17025 accredited environment.
\n\tFamiliarity with microbiological equipment: incubators, autoclaves, biological safety cabinets, pH meters, colony counters.
\n\tExperience with LIMS and laboratory documentation practices.
\n\tExperience troubleshooting microbiological methods or contamination events.<\/p>\n
