{"id":35108,"date":"2026-05-04T12:02:23","date_gmt":"2026-05-04T12:02:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/jobs.dataaxisnode.com\/southafrica\/job\/director-occupational-health-and-safety-and-environment-director-office-of-the-vice-chancellor\/"},"modified":"2026-05-09T00:24:37","modified_gmt":"2026-05-09T00:24:37","slug":"director-occupational-health-and-safety-and-environment-director-office-of-the-vice-chancellor","status":"expired","type":"job_listing","link":"https:\/\/jobs.dataaxisnode.com\/southafrica\/?post_type=job_listing&p=35108","title":{"rendered":"Director: Occupational Health And Safety And Environment \n\n\n            \n\n            \n            Director: Office Of The Vice Chancellor"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Lead, direct and coordinate the overall management, development, implementation and maintenance of a comprehensive occupational health and safety management system that will ensure compliance with the occupational safety and health laws, regulations and industry best practices.<br \/>\n\tDevelop a high-level strategy for and the roll out of occupational health and safety environmental governance, plans and control mechanisms required to ensure legal compliance and best OHS best practice through implementing a strict set of guidelines.<br \/>\n\tPreparing and supporting the implementation of resources and establishing a culture of health and safety.<\/p>\n<p>KEY ACTIVITIES<\/p>\n<p>\tDevelop and review an OSH policy framework to ensure compliance with legislation for the effective control of occupational safety and health risks.<br \/>\n\tLead OSH strategic objectives, serve as an expert technical resource for the management executives and provide executive reports on the implementation of OSH management systems.<br \/>\n\tManage a team of occupational safety and health professionals and associated resources to ensure the effective functioning of the OSH Unit.<br \/>\n\tDevelop OSH management systems inclusive of plans, procedures, safe systems of work and review to monitor their effectiveness.<br \/>\n\tOversee the establishment and maintenance of OSH related documentation and records.<br \/>\n\tEstablish annual \/quarterly work plans for the OSH Unit, establish key performance indicators and evaluate the overall performance of the OSH management system.<br \/>\n\tRepresent the University on all OSH matters with external professionals and regulatory agencies\/bodies.<br \/>\n\tIdentify OSH training needs and develop and execute an OSH training programme and evaluate its delivery and impact. Develop and implement an OSH Audit Plan in accordance with the OSH Act and Regulations.<br \/>\n\tDevelop project proposals for inclusion in the University\u2019s development programme and provide oversight and management for OSH project activities.<br \/>\n\tProvide strong directional support and guidance with the implementation of OSH operational policies, programmes, procedures etc.<br \/>\n\tUndertake major investigations such as incidents resulting in fatalities, occupational diseases, or major property damage.<br \/>\n\tModel, promote and influence behavioral and cultural changes through effective leadership and engagement.<br \/>\n\tManage and prepare annual budgetary allocation for functioning of the Occupational Safety and Health Unit.<br \/>\n\tDevelop and maintain technical competence for the OSH team and provide leadership, coaching and direction for team members.<br \/>\n\tEnsures that the strategic establishment of project and \/ or contractor health, safety and environmental compliance takes place in line with OHS Act requirements.<br \/>\n\tMaintain project reporting dashboard for review by directors, vice chancellor and council.<br \/>\n\tDevelop safety management systems that fullfills the strategy for the implementation of the statutory, moral and ethical requirements for duty of care of employees, students and contractors.<br \/>\n\tMeet with the Deans and Managers on a fortnightly basis to ensure the OHS&amp;E Strategy is met.<br \/>\n\tMaintain registration with the South African Institute of Safety and Health (SAIOSH) and the South African Council for the Project and Construction Management Professions (SACPCMP) registration is a mandatory requirement as a Construction Health and Safety professional.<br \/>\n\tMeet the appointment requirements as an Employer\u2019s Health and Safety Agent: the<br \/>\n\tperson appointed as agent by the Employer in terms of Regulation 4(5) of the<br \/>\n\tConstruction regulations as the being the employer\u2019s agent responsible for health and safety matters.<br \/>\n\tPerform other related duties as required.<\/p>\n<p>MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS<\/p>\n<p>\tMaster\u2019s degree in a relevant qualification.<br \/>\n\tRelevant experience in risk management in project management and operational environment.<br \/>\n\tExperience within the corporate and major infrastructure safety management environment.<br \/>\n\t8 to 10 years\u2019 relevant experience in developing strategic safety management implementational diverse management environments. With experience in major in infrastructure health, safety and environment monitoring and reporting.<br \/>\n\tExperience in the preparation and presentation of health, safety and environment reporting leading and lagging indicators.<br \/>\n\tExperience in understanding, interpretation and preparation of planned health, safety and environment strategies and compliance in both business and project environment.
