KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:<\/p>\n
Maintenance of a section of the Botanical Garden:<\/p>\n
\tTrimming, pruning and removal of excess growth, vegetation and fallen trees.
\n\tWeeding of invasive and exotic species.
\n\tRegular watering of the section.
\n\tFertilisation of flower beds and lawn areas.
\n\tMonitoring trees, shrubs and herbaceous plants for pests and diseases.
\n\tMulching of flower beds
\n\tPlanting of new plants and replacement of dead plants
\n\tRepair path- and walk-ways.<\/p>\n
General tasks and activities in the Garden:<\/p>\n
\tManage
\n\tment Weeding of invasive and exotic species from the \u201cKoppie\u201d section.
\n\tCleaning of water features and dams.
\n\tRubble removal from bins.
\n\tCleaning of the braai area.
\n\tInspecting the security fence.
\n\tCleaning and maintenance of garden furniture, equipment, tools and stores.
\n\tMoving of Botanical Garden gallery tables and chairs to and from the stores.
\n\tAssist with environmental education talks to visiting schools.
\n\tOpening and the closing of the Botanical Garden gates in the morning and afternoon.
\n\tCollection of practical material from the garden.
\n\tPreparation of practical material.
\n\tDelivery and collection of practical material to the laboratories.
\n\tCleaning and removal of rubble from the Ecology \/ Botany greenhouses and Open Tops facility.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
Occupational Health and Safety:<\/p>\n
\tMaintenance of safety at the workplace.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Ad hoc tasks:<\/p>\n
\tAssist with ad hoc tasks for the School of Biological Sciences.<\/p>\n
Minimum requirements<\/p>\n
\tGrade 10 – 12 (NQF Level 2 – 4).<\/p>\n
ADDED ADVANTAGES\/ RECOMMENDATIONS:<\/p>\n
\tA minimum of 1 year experience in maintenance of botanical gardens.
\n\tA minimum of 1 year experience in general tasks and activities in gardens.
\n\tA minimum of 1 year experience in occupational health and safety.<\/p>\n
