PURPOSE<\/p>\n
\tAn exciting opportunity exists for a technically capable and self-motivated Engineer to support Fraser Alexander Tailings (FAT) in managing technical risk across multiple tailings storage facilities (TSFs). The role will support regional engineers and contributes to technical risk identification, assessments, management, monitoring, and reporting.<\/p>\n
Requirements<\/p>\n
RESPONSIBILITIES<\/p>\n
Operational and Technical Risk Management, and Optimisation<\/p>\n
\tSupport the monitoring, management, reporting, and assurance of technical risks across assigned TSFs, in line with FAT standards and procedures.
\n\tConduct site inspections aligned with FATs Technical and SHEQ standards.
\n\tAssist in technical audits, risk assessments and reporting, and development of mitigation measures.
\n\tParticipate in technical audits, site characterisation reviews, and stability observations under supervision.
\n\tEnsure data submissions are complete, consistent, and quality-assured.
\n\tCollaborate with the RTFEs and EoRs as needed.<\/p>\n
Project Development, Operational and Commercial Support<\/p>\n
\tContribute to the planning and delivery of projects, including scoping, feasibility inputs, design support, and cost management.
\n\tSupport operational and technical assignments, including special projects in response to emerging needs.
\n\tAssist in integrating technical risks into operational planning and execution.<\/p>\n
Mentorship, Learning and Development<\/p>\n
\tProvide mentoring, guidance and support to FAT operations.
\n\tActively participate in coaching and mentorship activities facilitated by the Technical and Senior Engineers.
\n\tSupport the provision of on-the-job coaching to less experienced engineers and support their development in field-based engineering practices.
\n\tDevelop subject matter expertise in tailings risk management, aligned to FAT methodologies and international best practice.<\/p>\n
SHEQ Management<\/p>\n
\tOperate within the Fraser Alexander and Client SHEQ standards and procedures.
\n\tIdentify and escalate safety, health, environmental, or quality risks observed during fieldwork or desktop work.
\n\tContribute to continuous improvement initiatives related to Technical, SHEQ and Operational efficiency.<\/p>\n
QUALIFICATIONS<\/p>\n
Essential<\/p>\n
\tBTech or BSc in Engineering (Civil \/ Geotechnical \/ Technical)
\n\tRegistered candidate Engineer with ECSA<\/p>\n
Preferred<\/p>\n
\tMRD 101 or equivalent Tailings Management Course
\n\tDemonstrable progress toward ECSA registration (Pr.Eng \/ Pr.Tech.Eng)
\n\tAdditional training in risk or project management (e.g., PMI-RMP, PMP)<\/p>\n
EXPERIENCE<\/p>\n
\tMinimum 2 to 4 years relevant experience in tailing operations and\/or tailings technical support
\n\tDemonstrable experience in, or exposure to, operational risk management strategies and protocols
\n\tDemonstrable field experience with tailings, including inspections, data analysis, and facility monitoring.<\/p>\n
Familiarity or working knowledge of:<\/p>\n
\tSANS 10286
\n\tRelevant SA mining and environmental legislation (MHSA, OHSA, NWA, NEMA, etc.)
\n\tInternational tailings management frameworks and guidelines (GISTM, ANCOLD, ICOLD, CDA, TSM, etc.)<\/p>\n
COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS<\/p>\n
\tProficiency in MS office
\n\tBasic proficiency or exposure to geotechnical software (e.g. Slide, Slope W, Seep W, AutoCAD, Muk3D)
\n\tSound technical report writing and documentation
\n\tSolid project and quality management
\n\tDeadline-driven mindset
\n\tStrong interpersonal communication
\n\tTeamwork
\n\tInitiative and willingness to take ownership of assigned tasks<\/p>\n
OTHER REQUIREMENTS<\/p>\n
\tWillingness and ability to travel to and work at regional, field-based, and remote sites as required.
\n\tValid driver\u2019s license.
\n\tCommitment to continuous learning and staying current with tailings management best practices.<\/p>\n
