Requirements<\/p>\n
Data Privacy Governance & Compliance:<\/p>\n
\tDevelop, implement, and oversee the organization\u2019s data privacy strategy and policies.
\n\tEnsure compliance with applicable data protection laws (e.g., POPIA, GDPR, and other relevant regulations).
\n\tMaintain and update privacy frameworks, standards, and procedures.
\n\tMonitor regulatory changes and advise the business on implications.<\/p>\n
Legal Advisory & Risk Management:<\/p>\n
\tProvide legal guidance on data protection obligations, contracts, and data-sharing agreements.
\n\tConduct privacy impact assessments (PIAs\/DPIAs) and risk assessments.
\n\tAdvise on cross-border data transfers and third-party data processing risks.
\n\tSupport legal teams in managing data breaches, investigations, and regulatory inquiries.<\/p>\n
Data Protection Operations:<\/p>\n
\tOversee data mapping, classification, and records of processing activities.
\n\tEnsure appropriate data retention and deletion practices are in place.
\n\tCollaborate with IT and Security teams to ensure privacy-by-design and privacy-by default principles.
\n\tReview and approve data protection controls in systems and projects.<\/p>\n
Stakeholder Engagement:<\/p>\n
\tAct as the primary point of contact for regulators, auditors, and internal stakeholders on privacy matters.
\n\tLiaise between Legal, IT, Compliance, Risk, and Business Units.
\n\tProvide expert input into business initiatives involving personal data.<\/p>\n
Training Awareness:<\/p>\n
\tDevelop and deliver privacy training and awareness programs across the organization.
\n\tPromote a culture of data protection and ethical data use.<\/p>\n
Incident and Breach Management:<\/p>\n
\tLead response to data breaches and privacy incidents.
\n\tEnsure timely reporting to regulators and affected parties where required.
\n\tMaintain incident logs and implement corrective actions.<\/p>\n
Policies and Procedures:<\/p>\n
\tDevelop, implement, and maintain data privacy policies, standards, and SOPs
\n\tEnsure adherence to internal governance frameworks and regulatory requirements (e.g., POPIA)
\n\tOversee data classification, retention, access control, and breach response procedures
\n\tRegularly review, update, and embed policies through audits, training, and controls<\/p>\n
People Management:<\/p>\n
\tDrive training and awareness programs to build a privacy-first culture across the bank
\n\tCollaborate and influence senior stakeholders across Legal, IT, Risk, and Business Units
\n\tSet clear objectives, monitor performance, and ensure accountability within the team<\/p>\n
Academic Requirement:<\/p>\n
\tBachelor\u2019s degree in Law, Information Technology, or related field (LLB preferred for Legal alignment).
\n\tPostgraduate qualification or certification in Data Privacy (e.g., CIPP\/E, CIPM) is advantageous.<\/p>\n
Work Experience:<\/p>\n
\t5\u201310+ years\u2019 experience in data privacy, legal compliance, or information security.
\n\tProven experience transitioning or working across IT and Legal functions is highly desirable.<\/p>\n
