{"id":35707,"date":"2026-05-12T12:02:12","date_gmt":"2026-05-12T12:02:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/jobs.dataaxisnode.com\/southafrica\/job\/deputy-director-legal\/"},"modified":"2026-05-23T00:24:52","modified_gmt":"2026-05-23T00:24:52","slug":"deputy-director-legal","status":"expired","type":"job_listing","link":"https:\/\/jobs.dataaxisnode.com\/southafrica\/?post_type=job_listing&p=35707","title":{"rendered":"Deputy Director: Legal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Job Description:\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\tImplement and comply with regulatory and legislative arrangements and reporting requirements.<br \/>\n\tDevelop, review, and maintain relevant legal policies and procedures.<br \/>\n\tProvide legal assistance to QCTO internal stakeholders.<br \/>\n\tManage litigation on behalf of the QCTO.<br \/>\n\tProvide oversight of external legal services and monitor progress of work, including legal fees.<br \/>\n\tConduct legal research and furnish legal opinions.<br \/>\n\tProvide contract drafting and review services, including Service Level Agreements (SLAs).<br \/>\n\tDevelop organisational standard contracts and SLA templates.<br \/>\n\tReview and vet all QCTO contracts and SLAs.<br \/>\n\tFacilitate all contracting processes and amendments at the QCTO.<br \/>\n\tProvide general legal advice and counsel internally.<br \/>\n\tProvide legal assistance in commercial transactions and negotiations as necessary.<br \/>\n\tAssist with budgetary planning for the Legal Services Unit.<br \/>\n\tManage and monitor expenditure for Legal Services against the allocated budget.<br \/>\n\tImplement and monitor the Legal Service operational plan.<br \/>\n\tManage performance of direct reports to create a high-performance culture.<br \/>\n\tProvide resources to staff to deliver on objectives and meet Legal Services targets.<br \/>\n\tProvide labour law advice and represent the QCTO at the CCMA and Labour Court.<br \/>\n\tAdvise management on process and substantive aspects of disciplinary action.<br \/>\n\tPrepare cases, heads of argument, pleadings, and settlement agreements in conjunction with the HR Unit.<br \/>\n\tDetermine management strategies and options during conciliation, mediation, and arbitration, in consultation with the HR Unit.<br \/>\n\tAnalyse labour cases (including settlement agreements) to assess practical implications, risks, and liabilities, in consultation with HR.\u00a0<br \/>\n\tPrepare cases, heads of argument, pleadings, and settlement agreements in consultation with the HR Unit.<br \/>\n\tAssist with the analysis, evaluation, and implementation of arbitration and pre-dismissal arbitration awards to determine possible grounds for rescission or review.<br \/>\n\tProvide procedural advice for incapacity investigations and advising management on work adaptations and alternative work options.<br \/>\n\tAdvise management on procedural and substantive aspects of grievance management, as well as the procedural and substantive aspects of disciplinary action for misconduct.<br \/>\n\tAssist management in the appointment of chairpersons and initiators for disciplinary enquiries and assist employer\u2019s representatives with investigations.<br \/>\n\tEducate management and employees on policies, procedures, collective agreements, and relevant legislation continuously.<br \/>\n\tManage the collective bargaining process in the QCTO.<br \/>\n\tManage, facilitate, and advise on labour relations cases in respect of dispute resolution, grievances, and disciplinary cases within the QCTO.<br \/>\n\tPrepare arguments for the CCMA and Labour Court in conjunction with the HR Unit.<br \/>\n\tFacilitate end-to-end disciplinary processes in liaison with line management and represent the employer at external tribunals (CCMA or Labour Court) on assigned cases.<\/p>\n<p>Job Requirements<\/p>\n<p>\tA recognized bachelor\u2019s degree (LLB) at NQF Level 8.<br \/>\n\tA minimum of 8 years collective experience as an admitted Attorney or Advocate of which 4 years must be at supervisory level in commercial law, labour law and litigation.\u00a0<br \/>\n\tKnowledge and exposure to the public service, QCTO mandates and strategies, the education system and pedagogy, the post-school education framework, and relevant government-wide\u00a0legislation (e.g., National Qualifications Framework Act, Skills Development Act, and National Skills Development Strategy III).<\/p>\n<p>Apply via company website ( N \/ A ) or<\/p>\n<p>qcto.hua.hrsmart.com<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"template":"","meta":{"_promoted":"","_job_location":"","_application":"http:\/\/qcto.hua.hrsmart.com","_company_name":"Quality Council for Trades and Occupations (QCTO)","_company_website":"http:\/\/N%20\/%20A","_company_tagline":"The Quality Council for Trades and Occupations (QCTO) is a Quality Council established in 2010 in terms of the Skills Development Act Nr. 97 of 1998.
