Job Description<\/p>\n
\tTo program, set, and operate CNC machines while performing precision fitting and assembly of mechanical components for trackless mining equipment. The role also includes supervising machine shop personnel, ensuring production efficiency, adherence to quality standards, and compliance with safety regulations.<\/p>\n
Workshop Environment (Machines & Capability)<\/p>\n
The incumbent will be required to operate and support the following equipment:<\/p>\n

\n\tCNC Mazatrol Nexus 350-II MY (multi-axis turning & milling capability)

Key Responsibilities<\/p>\n
CNC Programming (Mazak & Fanuc)<\/p>\n
Develop, write, and optimize CNC programs using:<\/p>\n
\tMazatrol conversational programming
\n\tFanuc G-code & M-code
\n\tProgram multi-axis turning and milling operations (including live tooling where applicable).
\n\tInterpret complex engineering drawings, CAD models, and specifications.
\n\tPerform machine setup, tool selection, offsets, and prove-out of programs.
\n\tConduct first-off inspections and adjust programs to meet tolerances.
\n\tOptimize machining strategies to improve cycle times and reduce tool wear.
\n\tTroubleshoot machining errors and implement corrective actions.<\/p>\n
Conventional Machining<\/p>\n
\tPerform precision turning and milling on conventional machines.
\n\tManufacture and modify components using:
\n\tUniversal milling machines
\n\tManual lathes
\n\tSupport urgent breakdown jobs and one-off component manufacturing.
\n\tEnsure dimensional accuracy and surface finish requirements are met.<\/p>\n
Fitting & Assembly<\/p>\n
\tPerform precision fitting, alignment, and assembly of mechanical components.
\n\tConduct maintenance and repair of mining equipment components.
\n\tWork within specified tolerances using measuring instruments:
\n\tMicrometers, verniers, bore gauges, dial indicators
\n\tAssist with rebuilds, breakdowns, and urgent production requirements.<\/p>\n
Supervisory & Leadership Responsibilities<\/p>\n
\tSupervise and coordinate daily machine shop activities.
\n\tAllocate work, monitor workflow, and ensure production targets are met.
\n\tProvide technical guidance and mentorship to artisans and apprentices.
\n\tEnforce discipline and ensure adherence to company policies.
\n\tDrive accountability for quality, productivity, and safety.<\/p>\n
Quality Assurance & Compliance<\/p>\n
\tEnsure all components meet ISO standards and company specifications.
\n\tConduct inspections and sign off completed work.
\n\tMaintain accurate production, inspection, and quality records.
\n\tEnforce compliance with MHSA and workshop safety standards.<\/p>\n
Continuous Improvement<\/p>\n
\tIdentify and implement improvements in machining processes.
\n\tReduce waste and improve efficiency using lean manufacturing principles.
\n\tRecommend tooling, fixture, and process enhancements.
\n\tSupport innovation in manufacturing of trackless mining equipment.<\/p>\n
Minimum Requirements<\/p>\n
Qualifications<\/p>\n
\tTrade Test Certificate: Fitter & Turner \/ Toolmaker
\n\tCNC Programming certification (advantageous)
\n\tNQF Level 4\u20135 or equivalent<\/p>\n
Experience<\/p>\n
\tMinimum 5\u20138 years in CNC machining and fitting
\n\tProven experience in:
\n\tMazak (Mazatrol) programming
\n\tFanuc controls (G-code programming)
\n\tExperience on multi-axis CNC machines
\n\tMinimum 2\u20133 years supervisory experience
\n\tMining or heavy engineering environment (advantageous)<\/p>\n
Technical Skills<\/p>\n
\tStrong knowledge of:
\n\tCNC turning & milling processes
\n\tMazatrol & Fanuc programming
\n\tTooling selection and cutting parameters
\n\tAbility to read and interpret complex engineering drawings
\n\tExperience with both CNC and conventional machining
\n\tStrong fault-finding and problem-solving ability<\/p>\n
