Role Purpose<\/p>\n
\tThe Senior IT Engineer is responsible for providing end\u2011to\u2011end technical support across 1st, 2nd, and 3rd level, ensuring reliable, secure, and efficient operation of the firm\u2019s IT infrastructure, platforms, and business\u2011critical systems including the firewalls.
\n\tThe primary purpose of the role is to establish a skilled, permanent in\u2011house technical resource with strong institutional knowledge who can resolve day\u2011to\u2011day user issues, manage complex infrastructure incidents, and act as the senior escalation point for technical problems. The role is hands\u2011on and spans user support, infrastructure platforms including the firewalls, application support, monitoring, and continuous service improvement.<\/p>\n
Key Responsibilities<\/p>\n
End\u2011User & Technical Support (1st, 2nd & 3rd Level)<\/p>\n
\tProvide 1st and 2nd level support for end\u2011user incidents, service requests, and system issues as required.
\n\tAct as the primary 3rd level escalation point for complex or unresolved technical issues.
\n\tTroubleshoot and resolve issues across operating systems, servers, applications, databases, and cloud platforms.
\n\tSupport business\u2011critical systems and applications, including those dependent on SQL databases.<\/p>\n
Infrastructure & Platform Support<\/p>\n
\tAdminister and support Active Directory, Azure AD \/ Entra ID, and identity synchronisation.
\n\tManage and support Microsoft 365 services, including Exchange Online.
\n\tSupport and maintain server and virtualisation platforms (Hyper\u2011V, VMware, or equivalent).
\n\tMonitor platform health, performance, availability, and capacity.<\/p>\n
SQL & Application Support<\/p>\n
\tProvide SQL Server support, including:
\n\tConnectivity and access troubleshooting
\n\tBasic query execution and validation
\n\tData verification and integrity checks
\n\tSupport to applications relying on SQL back\u2011end databases
\n\tLiaise with vendors and application owners to resolve database\u2011related issues where required.<\/p>\n
Incident, Problem & Change Support<\/p>\n
\tParticipate in incident and problem management, including root cause analysis and permanent remediation.
\n\tSupport infrastructure and application changes, upgrades, and patches.
\n\tEnsure appropriate testing and rollback procedures are followed for technical changes.<\/p>\n
Monitoring, Reporting & Operational Visibility<\/p>\n
\tMaintain and utilise monitoring and alerting tools across infrastructure platforms.
\n\tProduce operational reports covering availability, performance, trends, and recurring issues.
\n\tProvide technical input for service improvement initiatives.<\/p>\n
Documentation & Knowledge Management<\/p>\n
\tMaintain current technical documentation, diagrams, and configuration records.
\n\tDocument standard operating procedures and common troubleshooting steps.
\n\tContribute to knowledge sharing within the IT team to improve support efficiency.<\/p>\n
Internal Collaboration<\/p>\n
\tWork closely with the IT Manager, IT Engineers, Cybersecurity Analyst, and IT Risk & Compliance Manager to support reliable IT service delivery.
\n\tProvide technical guidance and mentoring to junior support staff when required.<\/p>\n
Network & Firewall Security Support<\/p>\n
\tAdminister and support network security infrastructure, including Fortinet firewalls (FortiGate)
\n\tPerform firewall configuration, policy management, and rule optimisation
\n\tMonitor firewall logs and security alerts, and respond to network and security incidents
\n\tSupport VPN configuration and secure remote access
\n\tEnsure firewall configurations align with security best practices and internal policies (e.g., POPIA, ISO 27001)
\n\tWork with cybersecurity and infrastructure teams to strengthen perimeter security and threat detection<\/p>\n

Qualifications & Experience<\/p>\n
\tRelevant IT qualification (Diploma or Degree in IT, Computer Science, or similar)
\n\t7+ years\u2019 experience in IT infrastructure and support roles
\n\tDemonstrated experience providing 1st, 2nd, and 3rd level support
\n\tStrong experience supporting business\u2011critical applications and platforms
\n\tExperience in hybrid (on\u2011premises and cloud) environments
\n\tFortinet NSE 4 (Network Security Professional) or higher
\n\tMicrosoft certifications (Azure \/ Microsoft 365)
\n\tITIL Foundation (advantageous)<\/p>\n
