\tAs an Accountant, you will be responsible for managing a team of bookkeepers and overseeing the full spectrum of accounting, payroll, compliance, and financial reporting functions across multiple stores and clients. Your primary responsibilities include maintaining accurate financial records, preparing and analysing financial statements, and ensuring that all financial transactions comply with relevant regulations and standards.
\n\tIn this role, you will play a vital part in the financial decision-making process, providing insights that support the overall financial health and operational efficiency of the organisation. You will also be actively involved in mentoring staff, implementing internal controls, and ensuring adherence to internal deadlines, SARS requirements, and audit protocols.
\n\tYour attention to detail, strong analytical skills, leadership ability, and sound knowledge of accounting principles will be key to succeeding in this position.<\/p>\n
Minimum Requirements\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0
\nEducation<\/p>\n
\tA Bachelor\u2019s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required.
\n\tProfessional certifications such as CPA (Certified Public Accountant), ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants), or similar are highly preferred.<\/p>\n
Experience:<\/p>\n
\tProven experience as an Accountant or in a similar financial role, ideally within an audit environment.<\/p>\n
Preferred Profile:<\/p>\n
The ideal candidate would currently be an Audit Manager at an auditing firm, with experience in:<\/p>\n
\tCompleting articles in an audit environment.
\n\tManaging staff and junior accountants.
\n\tLeading full audit engagements from planning to finalisation.
\n\tNote: Our internal structure is modelled closely on that of an audit firm; therefore, familiarity with audit-based workflows and controls is highly advantageous.<\/p>\n
Duties and Responsibilities\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0
\nTeam & Information Management<\/p>\n
\tManage, train, and mentor a team of bookkeepers, including conducting monthly performance reviews.
\n\tProvide day-to-day assistance and support on queries from stores, clients, and staff.
\n\tConduct training sessions for new and existing staff (bookkeepers and clients).
\n\tPerform back-to-work interviews and manage performance appraisals.
\n\tSet clear deadlines and provide structured direction for bookkeepers.
\n\tMaintain and manage staff and client data on electronic storage systems.<\/p>\n
Operational Oversight<\/p>\n
Daily & Weekly Responsibilities<\/p>\n
\tMonitor bookkeeper compliance with daily and weekly banking checks.
\n\tAuthorise store expenditure by reviewing supporting documentation for validity and VAT compliance.
\n\tRelease payments via electronic banking platforms.
\n\tEnsure timely handling of staff, client, and internal group queries.
\n\tOversee adherence to operational requirements by bookkeepers.<\/p>\n
Monthly Responsibilities<\/p>\n
\tReview and approve salaries, incentives (including locum payments), and EMP submissions.
\n\tPerform and verify monthly incentive calculations.
\n\tEnsure accurate salary processing and resolve related queries.
\n\tReview store bookkeeping, raise review notes, and ensure corrections are made.
\n\tPrepare and review management accounts and address related client queries.
\n\tReview and authorise PAYE and VAT reconciliations, ensuring submission on e-Filing.
\n\tOversee SARS communication handling and resolution of tax queries.
\n\tManage drawdown lists and loan amortisations for applicable stores.
\n\tEnsure the completeness and accuracy of month-end reports from POS systems.
\n\tAct as administrator for bank profiles (manage access and rights).
\n\tAdminister e-Filing profiles for staff (add\/edit\/remove).
\n\tConduct Pastel roll-overs, error resolution, and manage access issues.
\n\tOrder and manage stationery and Metrofile documentation storage.
\n\tOversee postal processes and distribution of received client mail.<\/p>\n
Annual Responsibilities<\/p>\n
\tCoordinate annual staff increase processes and distribute client guidelines.
\n\tSet and discuss turnover targets with stores and clients.
\n\tParticipate in full audit processes with external auditors (planning, query resolution, journal evaluation, and finalisation).
\n\tEnsure BHF yearly charges are settled across all stores.
\n\tComplete IRP501 reconciliations twice a year and resolve queries with HR.
\n\tManage annual Pastel renewals and roll-overs.<\/p>\n
Ad Hoc & Special Projects<\/p>\n
\tDevelop business plans for prospective franchisees seeking financing.
\n\tManage onboarding and setup for new staff (IT, desks, supplies).
\n\tOversee the setup and onboarding process for new stores.
\n\tLiaise with banks\/FeverTree to arrange lease deposit guarantees.
\n\tReview provisional tax calculations from auditors.
\n\tComplete IT14SD reconciliations when required.
\n\tObtain audit certificates for licenses and landlord reporting requirements.
\n\tContinuously update and maintain internal templates, processes, and procedures.<\/p>\n
