We are seeking an\u00a0Applications Engineer\u00a0to join our Pumps Team. The successful candidate will be responsible providing technical and application support for Pumps, Cyclones, Valves, and Hoses within mining and mineral processing operations.
\n\tThe role focuses on equipment selection, performance optimization, competitor replacement opportunities, field trials, and delivering technically sound solutions that improve customer operational performance and lifecycle cost efficiency.
\n\tThe Applications Engineer works closely with the Trials and Replacements Manager to identify conversion opportunities, execute product trials, and support business growth through technical engagement and customer relationship development.
\n\tIn this position, you will report to the\u00a0Trials and Replacements Manager \u2013 Pumps, Cyclones, Valves & Hoses.
\n\tThis position is mainly located in\u00a0Centurion, Gauteng.<\/p>\n
TEAM YOU\u2019LL BELONG TO<\/p>\n
\tYou will join the Engineering Team and work closely with internal and external stakeholders, such as\u00a0Sales & Accounts Managers,\u00a0Technical Sales Support Teams,\u00a0Engineering Teams\u00a0and\u00a0Service & Operations Teams.<\/p>\n
WHAT YOU WILL DO<\/p>\n
Technical Application Support<\/p>\n
\tProvide technical support for slurry pumps, hydro-cyclones, valves, and hoses across mining and mineral processing applications
\n\tConduct equipment sizing, selection, and application evaluations based on process and operational data
\n\tReview customer process conditions and recommend optimized equipment solutions
\n\tSupport troubleshooting and root cause analysis for equipment performance issues<\/p>\n
Trials & Competitor Replacement Projects<\/p>\n
\tIdentify and support competitor replacement opportunities in existing operations
\n\tAssist in planning, executing, and monitoring field trials for pumps, cyclones, valves, and hoses
\n\tCollect, analyse, and interpret trial performance data and prepare technical reports
\n\tDemonstrate performance improvements related to wear life, efficiency, throughput, reliability, and total cost of ownership
\n\tWork with customers to minimize operational risks during replacement or trial implementation<\/p>\n
Customer Engagement & Technical Sales Support<\/p>\n
\tProvide technical support during customer meetings, site visits, and presentations
\n\tSupport sales teams with technical proposals, equipment recommendations, and value propositions
\n\tAssist in preparing tender responses and technical submissions
\n\tBuild strong technical relationships with plant personnel, engineers, and decision-makers<\/p>\n
Site Inspections & Performance Optimization<\/p>\n
\tConduct plant audits, inspections, and condition assessments
\n\tEvaluate equipment wear patterns, operational conditions, and maintenance practices
\n\tRecommend optimization opportunities to improve process efficiency and equipment reliability
\n\tSupport customers with operational best practices and product training<\/p>\n
Engineering & Documentation<\/p>\n
\tPrepare technical reports, sizing calculations, application recommendations, and performance analyses
\n\tMaintain accurate records of site activities, trials, and replacement opportunities
\n\tSupport the development of case studies and technical reference material
\n\tEnsure compliance with engineering standards and company procedures<\/p>\n
Cross Functional Collaboration<\/p>\n
\tCollaborate with engineering, product management, service, and operations teams
\n\tProvide field feedback to support continuous product improvement and innovation
\n\tSupport inventory and parts planning discussions related to trials and installed equipment<\/p>\n
WHO YOU ARE<\/p>\n
\tMatric (Grade 12)
\n\tBachelor\u2019s Degree or National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering or any related Engineering Discipline
\n\tAdditional training in\u00a0slurry pumping, mineral processing, or fluid handling systems is advantageous<\/p>\n
Minimum 3\u20137 years\u2019 experience in:<\/p>\n
\tMining or mineral processing operations
\n\tSlurry pumps, cyclones, valves, or hose applications
\n\tTechnical sales or applications engineering
\n\tProcess plant operations or maintenance support<\/p>\n
Experience in:<\/p>\n
\tGrinding and classification circuits
\n\tSlurry transport systems
\n\tField troubleshooting and plant optimization
\n\tCompetitor replacement projects or equipment trials
\n\tKnowledge of mineral processing circuits and slurry handling systems<\/p>\n
Understanding of:<\/p>\n
\tCentrifugal slurry pumps
\n\tHydrocyclone operation and classification principles
\n\tIndustrial valves and hose systems
\n\tWear mechanisms and material selection
\n\tPump and process performance calculations<\/p>\n
Knowledge of:<\/p>\n
\tMining plant operations and maintenance practices
\n\tTechnical report writing and engineering documentation
\n\tHealth, safety, and mining regulations<\/p>\n
