\tThe Data Engineer \u2013 Data Acquisition at Guardrisk is a hands-on integration and data enablement role responsible for ensuring that external data providers (cells, binder holders, system providers, administrators, and partners) deliver complete, accurate, timely, and technically compliant data that Guardrisk can reliably ingest and process.
\n\tThe role exists to design, implement, and operationalise external data ingestion pipelines, with a primary focus on premium bordereaux (BDX), and secondary responsibility for master and transactional data exchanged with third parties.
\n\tThis role works directly with external parties, engaging them on data structures, formats, validation rules, delivery mechanisms, and remediation of issues. It partners closely with the Data Architect (to align to target architecture and data models), Data Analysts (to ensure analytical usability), and Data Stewards (to ensure operational data quality once data is live).
\n\tThe role is delivery-oriented and externally facing, bridging business requirements, technical standards, and partner capabilities to ensure Guardrisk can confidently process and rely on third-party data.<\/p>\n

Qualifications & Experience<\/p>\n
\tBachelor\u2019s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field.
\n\tStrong emphasis on practical data engineering experience over theoretical qualifications.
\n\t5+ years\u2019 experience as a data engineer, with demonstrable focus on:
\n\tExternal data ingestion and integration.
\n\tFile- and API-based data exchange.
\n\tData validation and reconciliation.<\/p>\n
Strong experience working with:<\/p>\n
\tBordereaux or high-volume transactional data.
\n\tFinancial or insurance datasets.
\n\tProven experience engaging directly with external data providers.
\n\tSolid exposure to Microsoft Azure data technologies (e.g. Azure Data Factory, Synapse, Databricks, SQL).
\n\tInsurance domain experience strongly preferred, especially where data impacts:
\n\tPremium processing.
\n\tFinance.
\n\tReporting and regulatory submissions.<\/p>\n

External Data Acquisition & Integration (Primary Accountability)<\/p>\n
Design, build, and maintain data ingestion pipelines for external data sources, with a primary focus on:<\/p>\n
\tPremium bordereaux (BDX)
\n\tPolicy and transactional feeds
\n\tSupporting master data where required
\n\tImplement ingestion patterns aligned to Guardrisk\u2019s data architecture (batch, file-based, API, secure transfer).<\/p>\n
Ensure external data conforms to agreed:<\/p>\n
\tData models
\n\tSchemas
\n\tValidation and reconciliation rules
\n\tDelivery frequency and cut-offs
\n\tEnable scalable and repeatable onboarding of new external data providers.
\n\tExternal Partner Engagement & Enablement
\n\tAct as the technical data interface between Guardrisk and external providers.<\/p>\n
Engage directly with:<\/p>\n
\tCells
\n\tBinder holders
\n\tAdministrators
\n\tSystem providers<\/p>\n
Support partners by:<\/p>\n
\tExplaining Guardrisk data requirements and standards
\n\tAssisting with mapping, formatting, and transformation logic
\n\tAdvising on delivery mechanisms and error handling
\n\tDrive remediation where partner data does not meet required standards.
\n\tTravel to partner and provide onsite support.
\n\tPremium BDX Enablement & Control
\n\tImplement robust ingestion and validation of premium bordereaux, including:
\n\tStructural validation
\n\tCompleteness checks
\n\tReconciliation against expected volumes and values<\/p>\n
Ensure BDX data is fit for:<\/p>\n
\tFinance and premium recognition
\n\tUnderwriting performance analysis
\n\tRegulatory and internal reporting
\n\tWork with Data Analysts and Finance to resolve discrepancies early in the pipeline.<\/p>\n
Data Quality & Issue Resolution (Engineering Perspective)<\/p>\n
\tBuild and Support automated validation and control checks into ingestion pipelines.
\n\tSupport the Data Validator and the rollout in the external data provider space.
\n\tPartner with Data Stewards when operational data quality issues are detected.<\/p>\n
Perform root cause analysis across:<\/p>\n
\tSource systems
\n\tPartner delivery processes
\n\tIngestion and transformation logic
\n\tImplement durable fixes rather than manual workarounds.<\/p>\n
Alignment with Data Architecture & Analytics<\/p>\n
\tWork closely with the Data Architect to ensure:
\n\tExternal data aligns to Guardrisk canonical models
\n\tIntegration patterns support the target architecture<\/p>\n
Collaborate with Data Analysts to ensure:<\/p>\n
\tExternal data is usable for analytical and reporting purposes
\n\tKey business metrics can be reliably derived
\n\tEnsure ingestion design balances technical correctness and business usability.<\/p>\n

Maintain practical technical documentation for external data integrations, including:<\/p>\n
