Purpose of the job:\u00a0<\/p>\n
\tResponsible for ensuring that plant and production equipment is maintained to required operational and safety standards through effective preventative and breakdown maintenance. The role includes attending to day-to-day breakdowns, supporting maintenance planning, mentoring apprentices, and carrying out mechanical and electrical tasks as required to ensure optimal plant performance.<\/p>\n
Qualifications and Expertise Required (Must)
\nEducation & Certification<\/p>\n
\tGrade 12 (Matric)
\n\tTrade-tested Millwright (Red Seal) \u2013 essential
\n\tRelevant post-matric qualification (NQF Level 3 or higher)
\n\tWelding certification \u2013 advantageous<\/p>\n
Experience:<\/p>\n
\tMinimum 3\u20135 years\u2019 relevant experience as a Millwright
\n\tExperience in production, plant, workshop, and maintenance environments
\n\tExposure to chemical or processing plants will be advantageous
\n\tProven experience in both mechanical and electrical maintenance
\n\tProven experience in maintenance and repair of industrial equipment<\/p>\n

\tAwareness of MERSETA apprenticeship requirements<\/p>\n
Knowledge & Technical Skills:<\/p>\n
\tAbility to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and technical manuals
\n\tStrong fault-finding and troubleshooting skills (mechanical and electrical)
\n\tWelding skills: ARC, TIG, Argon
\n\tMechanical fitting and alignment, and pump alignment skills
\n\tElectrical reticulation and basic control systems knowledge
\n\tBasic understanding of PLCs, hydraulics, pneumatics and automated systems
\n\tProficient in the use of hand tools and workshop equipment
\n\tSound knowledge of engineering principles and maintenance practices
\n\tKnowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Act
\n\tComputer literacy (MS Word and Excel)<\/p>\n

\n\tReports to the Maintenance Team Leader<\/p>\n
General Functions:<\/p>\n
\tEnsure cost-effective maintenance by identifying inefficiencies and implementing corrective actions
\n\tIdentify and maintain critical spares, tools, and consumables
\n\tParticipate in plant risk assessments and SHEQ initiatives
\n\tEnsure all work is carried out under the correct permit-to-work system (e.g., hot work, confined space, lockout\/tagout)
\n\tIssue and sign off maintenance clearance certificates where required
\n\tEnsure compliance with The company standards and all company safety rules and regulations<\/p>\n
Installations & Fabrication:<\/p>\n
\tInstall and commission processing equipment (e.g., pumps, piping, mechanical structures, agitators)
\n\tFabricate steel and piping as required
\n\tPerform ARC, TIG, Argon, and other welding methods
\n\tConduct pipe fitting, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement initiatives
\n\tAssist with planning and installation of new projects
\n\tAccurately complete all job cards and maintenance records<\/p>\n
Maintenance:<\/p>\n
\tExecute preventative and breakdown maintenance on plant equipment
\n\tTroubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and automated systems including processing plant, effluent systems, agitators, pumps, and forklifts
\n\tMaintain accurate records of all maintenance activities
\n\tEnsure good housekeeping standards in the workshop
\n\tCarry out ad hoc mechanical and electrical tasks within scope of competence as directed by the Team Leader<\/p>\n
Documentation & Compliance<\/p>\n
\tComplete all job cards, maintenance records, and checklists accurately and timeously
\n\tDevelop, review, and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and related maintenance documentation
\n\tMaintain proper documentation for audits and compliance purposes
\n\tEnsure adherence to company policies, SHEQ standards, and legal requirements
