\tUndertake advanced innovative geoscience; integrated and multidisciplinary geoscientific research which includes projects management<\/p>\n
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES<\/p>\n
\tOverseeing the Geochemistry Section (X-ray fluorescence (XRF) laboratory, Chemistry laboratory, Coal laboratory and Environmental laboratory) operations, research and team management.
\n\tEnsure adherence to an effective laboratory quality management system that is compliant to applicable ISO standards.
\n\tMaintain and monitor quality control on all procedures employed in the section.
\n\tDevelop laboratory standard operating procedures and work instructions.
\n\tPerform method validation on laboratory test methods and align them to international best practices.
\n\tEnsure that the section produce accurate and validated analysis data.
\n\tMaintain participation in proficiency testing programmes for the section\u2019s test methods.
\n\tPerform Root Cause Analysis to all non-conformances that are raised in the section.
\n\tImplement corrective and preventative measures to all audit observations and findings.
\n\tEnsure that occupational hazards are identified and that risks are assessed and eliminated, mitigated or managed as required by occupational health and safety legislation.
\n\tEnsure that the laboratory environment is safe and free from harm.
\n\tConduct and supervise section related individual and\/or cooperative research.
\n\tInitiate research projects.
\n\tEvaluate and report analysis data as scientific information in customer and\/or research reports including scientific interpretation and application of data.
\n\tEdit reports of Junior Scientists for publication including own.
\n\tPresents technical and research results at major conferences locally and internationally.
\n\tMonitor and control operational expenditure of the section.
\n\tMeasure and Improve analysis turnaround times.
\n\tEnsure that analysis targets are reached.
\n\tEnsure that all deliverables for research projects are submitted and archived on time.
\n\tEnsure that all research projects are delivered within the budgeted amount.
\n\tReduce operational cost by improving efficiency and better utilization of resources.
\n\tEncourage a cost saving culture and awareness within the section.
\n\tInitiate procurement of capital equipment as per capital expenditure demand plan.
\n\tReduce instrument and equipment downtime in the section by adhering to maintenance schedules and keeping critical spares.
\n\tAssist in recruiting of qualified and\/or relevant staff with optimal knowledge and skills to deliver on the mandate of the Analytical Services Business Unit.
\n\tSupervise and develop staff with optimal knowledge and skills to deliver on the mandate of the Analytical Services Business Unit.
\n\tEnsure that the section has succession planning where applicable.
\n\tAssist in recruiting of qualified and\/or relevant staff with optimal knowledge and skills to deliver on the mandate of the Analytical Services Business Unit.<\/p>\n

\n\tAbility to compile and present geo-scientific research investigations at national and international forums.
\n\tAbility to develop and present geo-scientific project proposals.
\n\tAbility to source commercial projects.
\n\tAbility to negotiate contractual proposals.
\n\tAbility to develop geo-scientific contractual proposals.
\n\tAbility to lead and manage varied geo-scientific projects.
\n\tAbility to lead and manage project team(s).
\n\tAbility to mentor and coach other scientists and project team members.
\n\tAbility to implement ISO certification processes and standards.<\/p>\n
EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS<\/p>\n
\tGrade 12; and
\n\tA minimium qualification of BSc (Hons) in Geology\/ Mineralogy\/Geochemistry\/Chemistry with a minimum of 13 years\u2019 experience working in a relevant geoscientific laboratory, or
\n\tMSc in Geology\/ Mineralogy\/Geochemistry\/Chemistry with a minimum of 8 years\u2019 experience working in a relevant geoscientific laboratory, or
\n\tPhD in Geology\/ Mineralogy\/Geochemistry\/ Chemistry with a minimum of 5 years\u2019 experience working in a relevant geoscientific laboratory.
\n\tProfessional Natural Scientist (Pr.Sci.Nat.) registration with SACNASP.
\n\tNRF rating will be an added advantage.
\n\tValid driver\u2019s licence.<\/p>\n
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE<\/p>\n
\tKnowledge and experience in advanced to specialised earth science research and applications toward natural resource characterisation and development.
\n\tKnowledge and experience in project planning, management, and execution.
