Job Purpose:<\/p>\n
\tThe Mid-weight Draughtsman is responsible for preparing accurate 3D models, detailed shop drawings, and Bills of Materials (BOM) to support efficient furniture production.
\n\tThe role requires strong technical skills in CAD software, a good understanding of manufacturing processes, and the ability to translate design concepts into production-ready documentation.
\n\tThis position also involves collaboration with production teams and cross-departmental leadership to ensure the smooth execution of projects from concept to completion. The Mid-Weight Draughtsman will report to the Technical Manager.<\/p>\n
Key Accountabilities:<\/p>\n
Technical Design & Drawing Accuracy (Core Responsibility)<\/p>\n
\tConvert concept designs into detailed, accurate technical drawings and 3D models, ensuring designs are production-ready.
\n\tPrepare comprehensive design packs and Bills of Materials (BOMs), ensuring all components are correctly specified and aligned with material and cost requirements.
\n\tEvaluate and recommend suitable materials, fittings, and joinery methods for new and existing designs, balancing practicality, quality, and production feasibility.<\/p>\n
Prototype Support & Production Alignment<\/p>\n
\tBrief approved designs to in-house WFCF and WFCU teams for prototyping.
\n\tDrive and oversee the prototyping process, ensuring alignment with design intent, production feasibility, and quality standards.
\n\tWork hands-on with production and machine operators to troubleshoot and refine prototypes, ensuring designs are translated effectively into physical products.<\/p>\n
Drawing & Technical Data Management<\/p>\n
\tDevelop and maintain a digital library of technical drawings across all furniture ranges, ensuring version control and accessibility for production teams.
\n\tMaintain updates to drawings and BOMs following design revisions or material changes.<\/p>\n
Collaboration & Process Contribution<\/p>\n
\tCollaborate with designers, technical managers, and production teams to ensure smooth workflow, feasibility, and timely project completion.
\n\tSupport continuous improvement initiatives by providing practical insights from prototyping and production feedback.<\/p>\n
\u00a0Technical Skills:<\/p>\n
\t5\u201310 years of relevant experience in technical furniture design, preferably across solid timber and wood-based materials.
\n\tA formal qualification in Drafting, Industrial Design, or a related field (3-year diploma or higher).
\n\tExcellent technical drawing skills and proficiency in Solid Works and Fusion (or similar CAD software).
\n\tPractical understanding of woodworking techniques, joinery methods, and manufacturing processes.
\n\tExperience working with CNC machines or programming is advantageous.
\n\tProven ability to manage time, meet deadlines, and drive projects from concept through to production.
\n\tComfortable communicating with both creative teams and factory staff.
\n\tA self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced, hands-on environment.
\n\tA valid driver\u2019s license and reliable transport are required.<\/p>\n
