The Senior Mechanical Engineer provides support to the Engineering Manager and is responsible for supervising a team of mechanical engineering practitioners. The Senior Mechanical Engineer provides leadership and assists in the resolution of technical matters related to the discipline for the project. In addition, the Senior Mechanical Engineer defines and develops the plan to meet the project requirements and supports the team of mechanical practitioners to achieve the expected results in terms of quality, cost and schedule.<\/p>\n
Key Responsibilities<\/p>\n
\tDevelop a thorough understanding of the project requirements as they relate to scope, cost and schedule
\n\tPrepare a list of engineering deliverables and time based functions to facilitate the planning and control of the engineering budget
\n\tDevelop the mechanical work plan for insertion into the project specific execution plan
\n\tDevelop and maintain the project\u2019s scope of work documentation and revise as required during the design evolution
\n\tManage and review the Engineering Work Packages (EWP) associated with all deliverables and time based functions to ensure that budgets and schedules are being met, and take corrective action if necessary
\n\tPrepare and maintain a Manpower Forecast List (MFL) that supports the engineering schedule
\n\tReview and approve the mechanical and layout design criteria documents
\n\tReview and approve the mechanical engineering and design standards
\n\tReview and approve mechanical technical deliverables (specifications, datasheets, drawings, etc.)
\n\tAssist in the preparation and development of project specific procedures
\n\tEstablish design tools, software, relevant codes and standards to be used on the project
\n\tAssign work tasks (via approved EWPs) to individuals and continuously monitor progress and quality
\n\tRepresent the mechanical practice in project engineering coordination meetings
\n\tSchedule, coordinate and participate in mechanical design reviews
\n\tEnsure coordination, between the mechanical team and other disciplines, of all activities being performed as the design evolves
\n\tEnsure that quality audits of engineering work are carried out in accordance with project procedures and the quality assurance plan
\n\tPromote and maintain the application of ethical and professional practices in the execution of mechanical engineering work
\n\tEnsure that all work designed, manufactured and supplied in the mechanical engineering discipline complies with the relevant sections of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA)
\n\tEnsure that site related activities for the practice relating to mechanical equipment and systems are expedited in accordance with project and plant requirements relating to safety, quality and project delivery requirements.<\/p>\n
Qualifications and experience<\/p>\n
Essential:<\/p>\n
\tBSc\/B.Eng in Mechanical Engineering
\n\tClient engagement capability + experience
\n\tExperience as discipline lead on projects (managing a team, schedule and budget would be highly advantageous)
\n\tRegistration as a professional engineer with the state or country where the construction will be executed
\n\tMinimum 10 years project experience with a minimum five years project engineering experience
\n\tExperience in the Mining and Metals industry would be advantageous
\n\tExperience working on large or complex projects in a multidisciplinary environment
\n\tAbility to manage individuals to attain quality, cost and schedule objectives
\n\tStrong deliverable focus
\n\tAbility to plan the work
\n\tA high degree of understanding of interdisciplinary dependencies related to the discipline
\n\tGood understanding of procurement, contracting and commissioning methodologies
\n\tTechnical exposure to the equipment technologies related to the project
\n\tGood understanding of client and Hatch systems and workflows as they relate to the mechanical practice
\n\tThorough understanding of client and Hatch HSEC policy and standards.
\n\tStrong leadership skills
\n\tWell developed communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills
\n\tAble to rapidly understand and assimilate project and client specific requirements<\/p>\n
Preferred<\/p>\n
\tExtensive knowledge of Hatch 3D data centric design systems
\n\tExtensive knowledge of Hatch engineering management systems
\n\tStrong ability to delegate tasks and promote the effective performance of team members
\n\tExperience in mentoring young professionals
\n\tExtensive experience in the use of procedures and workflows in the execution of projects
\n\tSignificant previous experience in engineering planning for the discipline
\n\tStrong client focus.<\/p>\n
