\tRCL Foods is recruiting for a driven, highly energized and customer focused Code 10 Driver Salesman within the baking business unit.
\n\tThe suitable candidate will be responsible to performs tasks \/ activities associated with the transportation and sales of bread and confectionary. Calling on customers (traders and retail chain stores), taking orders and delivering mainly from vehicle -frequently for cash and new customer acquisition.
\n\tThis role will be based in Empangeni and reporting to the Distribution Manager.
\n\tThis role is a Permanent role.<\/p>\n
Minimum Requirements\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>\n
Education<\/p>\n
\tGrade 12, valid Driver\u2019s License and v a l i d PDP.<\/p>\n
Skills<\/p>\n
\tAbility to read, write, understand and communicate in English.
\n\tGood numeracy<\/p>\n
Experience<\/p>\n
\tMin 2 years driving experience working in FMCG. Experience in delivering
\n\tand selling FMCG product for cash to existing and new customers.<\/p>\n
General<\/p>\n
\tTo maintain a valid Driver\u2019s Licence and v a l i d PDP
\n\tExpected to work over weekends and public holidays
\n\tExpected to work overtime as required
\n\tExpected to be on stand by and to come in to assist in the event of driver absenteeism.<\/p>\n
Duties & Responsibilities\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>\n
Dress and Vehicle Duties<\/p>\n
\tMaintain a clean vehicle to ensure high levels of hygiene standards at all times.
\n\tWear and make use of the prescribed PPE clothing and equipment.
\n\tEnsure driving compartment is clean and safe according to requirements for a work station in terms of the Occupational Health and Safety Act
\n\tChecks his vehicle according to the checklist specified by the company
\n\tEnter any faults onto the checklist.
\n\tSign the checklist as acknowledgement of the vehicle condition
\n\tFaults of a serious nature to be reported to the supervisor and the vehicle to be sent immediately to the workshop
\n\tArrange a replacement vehicle if the repair will take a longer time to repair
\n\tAdherence to the statutory rules of the road, thereby ensuring the safety of himself, his passengers and other road user vehicles.
\n\tImmediately report any theft of vehicle, fuel or equipment or damage to vehicle to Logistics Manager
\n\tImmediately report damage to third party vehicles or property to Logistics Manager
\n\tAccidents must be handled in terms of the company laid-down procedures for damage, injuries and death<\/p>\n
Stock and Loading<\/p>\n
\tCheck that actual stock loaded matches the orders placed.
\n\tDiscrepancies are noted and brought to the immediate attention of the Route Controller
\n\tOnce satisfied that the load is accurate, the driver to sign acceptance of the stock i.e., Loading Sheet
\n\tCheck number of crates on load and sign acknowledgement of amount that must be returned
\n\tCheck that vehicle has been safely loaded to ensure road safety is not compromised
\n\tInspect quality of stock being loaded and report any problems immediately to the relevant authority
\n\tIf no choice but to proceed with delivery of substandard stock, customer to be made aware of this fact and not force customer to purchase the goods.
\n\tDriver to assist with loading as and when require<\/p>\n
Van Assistants<\/p>\n
\tDriver to take responsibility for and supervise van assistant
\n\tEnsure van assistant is present at work and if not, arrange a replacement through the correct procedure
\n\tEnsure van assistant is presentable and deals with customers appropriately
\n\tTrain and coach van assistant to ensure he is meeting company standards
\n\tReport performance problems with van assistant to the Route Controller\/Supervisor
\n\tCreate a harmonious working relationship with the van assistant<\/p>\n
Sales and Customers<\/p>\n
\tAlways be friendly, helpful and respectful towards customers
\n\tLook for opportunities to increase daily sales by increasing sales to current customers and by gaining more customers
\n\tIf potential new sales area, driver to report to supervisor and sales manager to investigate further
\n\tAny potential or actual customer losses to be reported to supervisor. Every attempt to be made to win
\n\tback the customer and to supply market info. Be proactive on the route
\n\tReport any issues that may affect company service levels such as serious delays, difficult unloading conditions or other such problems
\n\tDriver liaises with customers weekly to ensure that customer service levels are maintained and that customers are retained on their routes.
\n\tDriver to implement promotions with customers as and when required.<\/p>\n
Deliveries<\/p>\n
\tDriver to ensure that the stock delivered to customer is according to the customer\u2019s order
\n\tWhere sales are being exceeded against orders, the driver to be aware of stock levels at all times to ensure all customers on the route are supplied with their order<\/p>\n
Key Responsibilities<\/p>\n
\tIf sales exceed actual amounts on truck, arrangements to be made via cell phone for replenishment of stock, either by means of an alternative vehicle or by returning to the bakery
\n\tShould further stock not be available, apologize to customers that are short-delivered
\n\tAll customers to receive their order but where this is not possible, at least some of their order
\n\tSecure orders for the following day\u2019s delivery and give the orders timeously to the sales department
\n\tEnsure all crates delivered, are recovered and returned to Sunshine Bakery premises on the same day
\n\tDriver to deliver or collect other items\/products to or from customers
\n\tCollect finished products from other bakeries\/drivers and delivering to the customer when there is a breakdown
\n\tTransporting personnel, material and equipment to \/ from specific locations
\n\tPerform crate recovery to monitor and minimise crate loses.<\/p>\n
Transactional Duties<\/p>\n
\tSecure and safeguard cash, paperwork and company stock. Make use of vehicle safe at all times
\n\tImmediately deposit cash in vehicle safe on receipt of it
\n\tBe vigilant in regard to counterfeit notes or fraudulent activities
\n\tBe aware of possible robbery attempts and driver to take necessary precautions to avoid risk
\n\tAccurately complete and \/or handle transactional documentation. These include but are not limited to invoices, delivery notes, loading schedules, crate control documents, vehicle log sheet, petrol slips, vehicle check lists, and other related forms
\n\tChecking and inserting the relevant information (quantitative\/ qualitative) details of activities.
\n\tForwarding of all documentation to the relevant personnel \/ departments for processing and ensuring all monies and loafage is accounted for
\n\tAccurate recording of the route data
\n\tSelling bread at the authorised price.
\n\tInvoices raised of delivery quantity to match cash received and other paperwork such as \u2018to pay\u2019 or \u2018bread on truck\u2019
\n\tCash ups to be completed by the driver, in the presence of the supervisor, on return from a route
\n\tCash to be dropped immediately to minimize company riskAll monies or paperwork to balance so that stock sold balances with cash received
\n\tDriver to sign for shortages within 24 hours
\n\tDriver to investigate shortage within further 24 hours<\/p>\n

\n\tObtain competitor products<\/p>\n
General<\/p>\n
\tDrivers may be required to assist in any aspect of the business from time to time as required. In particular, drivers may be required to perform the duties of van assistant or loader.
\n\tComply with health and safety standards in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act
\n\tReport any health issues to the supervisor that could affect his ability to drive safely<\/p>\n
