General Description:
\nThe role of the Senior Accountant may vary depending on the size and structure of the organization. Generally, the position is responsible for managing and supervising day-to-day financial operations, ensuring accurate and compliant financial reporting, and supporting the implementation of financial strategies. The Senior Accountant provides timely and reliable financial information to the Finance Manager and, when necessary, assists in preparing reports for external stakeholders such as auditors, regulatory authorities, and financial institutions.
\nKey responsibilities:<\/p>\n
Perform month-end close activities, including journal entries, accruals, prepayment, reconciliations, and related processes on a timely manner.
\nResponsible for working closely with the operations and upcountry technicians to ensure completeness and accuracy of the financial information and proper documentation.
\nPartner across functions in and outside of the finance organization to act as liaison between the groups.
\nAudit and Tax Management: Coordinate annual external audits, prepare tax returns, and ensure adherence to Tanzanian tax laws.
\nCost Control and Inventory Management: Oversee cost accounting, including tracking maintenance costs (e.g., spares, casual labor and other related costs) and maintenance costs minimization. Implement cost control strategies to improve company\u2019s margins.
\nInternal Controls and Compliance: Design, implement, and maintain internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure compliance with Tanzanian Revenue Authority (TRA) regulations, NSSF, VAT requirements, IFRS\/TFRS standards, and anti-fraud measures.
\nFinancial Reporting and Analysis: Prepare and oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow reports. Ensure timely submission of management reports and conduct variance analysis to identify cost-saving opportunities in areas like maintenance costs optimization
\nParticipate in process improvement initiatives leading to continuous operational excellence.
\nAudit and Tax Management: Coordinate annual external audits, prepare tax returns, and ensure adherence to Tanzanian tax laws.
\nCo-operate with others on health and safety and not interfere with or misuse anything provided for your health, safety or welfare
\nParticipate in HSE trainings (external\/internal) provided by the company<\/p>\n
Qualifications \/ Experience and Technical Skills required:<\/p>\n
3+ years of experience working in the accounting function of a publicly traded company (preferably in energy\/oil & gas).
\nBachelor\u2019s degree or above in Accounting or Finance. CPA certification preferred.
\nBasic knowledge of US GAAP and IFRS. Good understanding of SOX environment.
\nProficiency in SAGE or similar. Versatile with Microsoft Office suite.
\nProblem solver with a particular attention to detail and outstanding communications skills.
\nAbility to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment<\/p>\n
